Catskills Visitor Center — Attraction in Town of Shandaken

Very informative and the people & volunteers that work there were very friendly, talkative & helpful with the information they gave. The exhibits they have around the building are neat so you can learn more about the area that you're in. Bathrooms were clean & they did have some portopottys outside as well if the center was closed. They also had a pavilion and picnic tables outside. There is a small little store where someone could pick up a book, a souvenir or camp essential, a snack or a drink. The walking trail went around a nice meadow and led to a firetower, was a little disappointed that the very top cab was locked but I could still get a nice very from above the trees. Cute little visitors center with trails around. But what made it a great stop was another event by the 1st Ulster Militia. They always put on a great demonstration of life in the 18th century. Today they were showing off an encampment while the visitors center had a story day and Brooks Barbecue provided amazing food. The 1st Ulster even put on a show, running through the fields and woods with revolutionists and Loyalists skirmishing and shooting. Very nice well maintained grounds. Extremely helpful staff. Kid friendly trails. Awesome fire tower (if you’re not afraid of heights!). Overall a great spot if you’re new or live in the area alike. I deducted one star, though, because I really think they should either keep tweezers for ticks as part of a first aid kid people can use for free, or not have the only option be a $15 set, that was really...
