Anyela's Vineyard is the gem of Vineyards in Skaneateles! It is also the only one I am aware of given the high cost of land in the area. This large vineyard offers some great views, a nice facility and the best reds I have ever had in New York State! All of the (4) reds I tried were amazing and unique. The whites were a hit a well and on par or better than most others in the region.
We came at an off peak time of year, but we can see how this location would be packed during prime season. They have a jazz festival with attracts thousands of visitors each year. There is a specialty room (lower level accessed from outside) which is available for parties.
Carter was our wine expert on our visit. From the area and knowledgeable not only about the winery but the lake and geography of the area as well. Who knew it is the finger lake at the highest elevation and boasts some of the cleanest water in the United States. He added interesting insight to our experience. We will return again!
HINT: If you are looking for an excuse to visit the area (Summer concerts and live music along with a Charles Dickenson Christmas Carol events during the weekend (the later in town). The area is beautiful and somewhere worthy of...
Read moreSuper RUDE lady at the front really was insanely rude to my Husband. She wanted us to leave because he was holding our 8 lb Shih tzu as we approached the counter to order our flight. She said “The dog needs to go outside R. N.” As she punctuated the letters R, N, by hitting her hand on the counter and giving a HUGE eye roll. We didn’t even understand what she was saying at first because she was speaking in acronyms. Who talks like that? She is speaking in text out loud like we’re 12?
All the staff was rushing around complaining about each other. Yelling out things like “where IS HE” and “WHY is she doing that” totally distracted during the speech they’ve got memorized about each wine. So unprofessional.
After touring over 15 wineries, breweries and distilleries all over Seneca and Cayuga lakes over 5 days this was by far our worst experience. The wine was sub par and one had notes of DEET and the staff were the worst I’ve encountered in the region. Definitely a tourist trap. No real wine lovers would...
Read moreSo, it is not hard to pick us out as novice wine tasters. That would be the disclaimer. H I think the server was having fun with us in describing the wines. One was described as having a washed gravelly after-note. He said it as though that was standard terminology, and maybe it is, however not only did we not understand it, but we though that wine tasted a bit better than washed gravel. The next wine description, we just lowered out heads when he left and laughed thinking he is playing us. The cynical side of me thinks this server sits up at night thinking up phrases to see if someone will say, "what, what?" Absolutely professional other than the above and a beautiful setting, landscape, and views...
