I have to say thank you to Will and the staff at Wolf Mountain. I have admired Wolves and their way for many years. I must say the Wolf is my spirit animal. Their majestic ways, graceful, stern and loyal. At 45 years old never would I believe that I would be able to experience seeing one in person, say nothing about only 4 feet away. My first visit was on the 9 th and I was so happily overwhelmed I have forgoten any thing said to me. The first half hour all I could do was cry. A good cry.i mean come on, I'm standing four feet from the greatest creature alive. I did not feel sorrow or any negative vibes at all. These Wolves are well cared for and seem to be very content and happy here. As did I. No doubt I will be back not as a visitor, but as a volunteer. I truly plan on having Wolf Mountain be a life time place for me. I feel the spirit of the Wolf as soon as I hit the driveway. There were three to whom I feel there was a connection to. Tala, Tauriel and Nakoa. Tauriel actually layed down right in front of me and proceeded to fall asleep. As I can not pick a favorite, she definitely made an impression on me and my soul. As did Nakoa, the wisdom and knowledge in his eyes floored me. If at all you think you would be interested in visiting them I suggest you do if only once, I garentee you will have a forever story if not the desire to return. I my self did not want to leave. It was sweet sorrow to say goodbye to these amazing animal. However I will be going back for certain. Thank you all for the love that I Share for the Wolf and it's presents in our lives. Koodos to you all. You will be seeing me again and again and.......you get the point. And thank you Will for asking me what made it amazing for me. No one has ever really cared why I'm so attached to Wolves in general, say nothing about asking me. Hats off to you for doing something as...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWolf Mountain is an absolutely gorgeous place. The animals are well maintained: their enclosures huge; the placement of the different groups has been thoughtfully arranged; enrichment activities are regularly provided; the animals appear engaged, yet at peace. I had signed up for one of the special events, the wolf photography session. The event began with an informative session and slide show on the different wolves in residence, then proceeded through the woods to a two level tower of sorts. The platform overlooked the 9.2 acre enclosure. Food was strategically placed in close proximity to the platform to encourage the wolves to come that direction. The enclosure is impeccable, full of trees, leaves and vines. The wolves were fast, darting in and out, engaged with one another and the hunt for treats but leary of the stranger smells . It made for a very realistic wildlife photography experience, complete with all its challenges. Better than the photography, however, was the experience of being there- watching Sequoyah grab food and the pups chase, hearing the warning calls to the pups to back off from the strangers, the "marking" of territory because we were invaders, AND the pack HOWLS. We also got a tour of the other enclosures and animals. The volunteers were all fantastic, friendly, full of information, and willing to answers any questions. It was very apparent they are passionate about the work. One word of warning, if you are planning on bringing a set amount of cash tuck your checkbook in your pocket too- The gift shop is phenomenal and you will want to buy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI visited Wolf Mountain Nature Center this past weekend and had a truly amazing experience. Being a true conservancy, the wolves and coyotes live in very large enclosures that provide ample wild space. Despite the large enclosures and the fact that the wolves are crepuscular (active at dawn & dusk), I saw several of the wolves and coyotes during the guided walking tour. (I also learned the word ācrepuscularā from the very knowledgeable tour guide.)
Our tour visited the two fox habitats just as sanctuary employees were entering the enclosures with āsnacksā for the foxes. The snack was a really large feeding bowl with ice cubes, fish, blueberries, etc. The foxes were adorable and it was so fun to watch their enthusiasm as they clamored to get INTO the snack bowl & forage through the ice to get to the snacks.
I loved my visit to the sanctuary. I have never seen wolves in person before so this was a very special experience. My favorite animals were the two Timber Wolves that were laying on the grass and napping in the afternoon sun.
I chose to visit on a Sunday because I wanted to go on the tour. However, there were a lot of informational signs outside the enclosures so, if you canāt go on the tour, you can still learn a lot about these...
