Nice park, but very disappointed in some of the staff who are rude, crotchety, rough around the edges, menacing and give off a vibe of "being miserable and over it."
I was there with my disabled sister who is in a wheel chair. I knew closing time was at 4pm so my sister and I returned to the area close to the main fountain space which is by the entrance. By then it was around 3:20pm. So I figured we would take our time to "stop and smell the flowers" on our way out around that area which is already very close to the garden/park exit and parking lot. It was great timing and I knew exactly where the parking lot was relative to where we were.
However. This lady comes along during our stroll and was practically shoo-ing my sister and I away when we had 40 MINUTES LEFT, by offering to show us where the parking lot was, imposingly, impulsively, robotically and repeatedly telling us in this one unsolicited interaction with her that the park was gonna be closing at 4 as if I can't tell time. So unnecessary and so insensitive. She was even watching us from afar at one point, again, by the fountain area, close to the exit, as if we we'd done something wrong by just being there. What...
Read moreI want to say this is a hidden gem, but it’s hard to call it hidden due to the sheer size and amount of land this park takes up. If you drove by without seeing the sign, you could mistake it for some private farmland but it is open to the public. Enter and drive up the winding road to find ample parking right at the entrance. Beautifully maintained gardens line the walkways. (The flowers and trees all have nameplates so you know what you’re looking at.) A fountain at the center makes for a very tranquil and calming walk. Plenty of paved pathways to take everything in while keeping “socially distant”. There are often exhibits and unique experience, like a “Dinosaur” adventure for kids. Also inside is a memorial to our war veterans, surrounded by the beauty of the grounds, you can’t help but be moved by it. Deeper in you can find a small house that sells some drinks and snacks with some tables and chairs outside. Makes for a great spot to bring some friends for a picnic or to have lunch and relax. (There are well maintained bathrooms on the premises as well!)
Updated: the lack of dog friendly areas in this park (zero) given its size...
Read moreThe park and grounds are lovely
I was here for the Train show and Santa photos.
Santa was great. The looks and personality was perfect Id happily get pictures with him again
On to the problems
The train show is in a small shack that smelled like cat urine
There was one short older lady who was very rude and unfriendly. This is not someone who should be working a children's event during Xmas
There was a portly gray haired women working there who took photo(s) of my family without our knowledge or consent. That's wildly inappropriate. I know it's a public event and you may be in the background of someone's picture, but to work at an event and not ask permission to directly take someone's picture is wrong.
I wouldn't go back to the train show if you paid me. But Santa was a doll and he...
