This isn't a petting zoo- DON'T feed the birds. This makes wild animals into beggars and alters their behavior and natural diet.

Staff are upset no one respects this rule and that people who come almost daily often never pay the inexpensive parking fee though they can afford it. The ticket machine is easy to use- see the photo. 在机器上支付停车费 don't feed the birds or any wildlife! 不要喂鸟! 새에게 먹이를 주지 마세요! 주차요금은 기계에서 지불하세요. Too many people are disrespecting staff, ignoring rules, leaving trash, talking loud and treating this preserve poorly, not understanding how precious and rare it truly is.

If you come don't bring seed or man made snack items in. Enjoy that in your car before or after you visit and leave the waste in the trash cans near and in the parking area.

This is a rare, unique nature preserve, help keep it clean...

Probably the best place to get out and immerse yourself in nature on the island. Feeding the birds from your hands is a wonderful experience that really makes you feel connected with nature. There's also a swamp and a beach area to sit and observe from.

As far as bird feeding goes: Chickadees and Titmice are easy to feed. They'll come to you Bluebirds won't eat from your hand because they eat insects and have no interest in your seeds. Cardinals take some work. Normally they like bigger seeds but they'll just sit there and look at you. You have to be really still and earn their trust in order to feed a cardinal, though it is possible I've done it. Stay away from the turkeys.

Overall magical place akin to a Disney...

A truly special place. Wild turkeys, birds that eat seeds from your hands (tufted titmice and chicadees), a wonderful beach and forested trails. There are signs everywhere to make sure you don’t leave seeds on the ground and I came across a crazy old lady who was throwing seeds all over the place to attract and feed the turkeys. I asked her if she read the signs about the rats eating the seeds on the ground and also birds eggs in the process and she said “i just can’t help myself”. Why are some people such aholes???? Please follow the rules at this place! They are in place for a reason. Don’t ruin it for everyone else. In addition the beach is closed all summer starting April for plover nesting. Don’t...

So there are these little birds that are quite protective of their space. Now, if you go from the parking lot to the beach using the path that veers to the left and walk swiftly, they will not bother you - not if you decide take your phone out and take some pics they will hover by your face and try to let you know what's what. I think I heard two of them communicating, one said to the other, ".... Oh they think they doing something - nah, let's snuff 'em...". They mean business, and are straight up New Yorkers. See a pic...

Magical place. People were feeding birds straight from their hands. I don’t recommend it but they seemed to be enjoying it. Birds, groundhogs, rabbits and squirrels everywhere. It was like being in a Disney movie. I’d never seen so many Red Cardinals. I had ducks and chickadees coming up to me. I think they thought I had food for them. Beach was beautiful and the water clear and warm on a rainy day. Nice experience.
