I have to admit it. I've been obsessed with the Big Duck since I found out about it 30+ years ago, during my high school days. I've visited it multiple times at night with friends. I left LI in the mid 90s, but when I come back, I always enjoy visiting her, now with my children.
I haven't been inside there in years, but as memory serves it is a cute little store selling "duckabilia" and other LI stuff there. I think the people there are volunteers with the local historical society. So the hours tend to be odd. Doesn't matter to me - I'm just there for the duck.
Over the past couple of years, I've noticed some cracks in the facade. So hopefully they can repair it. In case not, I'd suggest coming out to see Long Island's best historical landmark (sorry, Sagamore Hill. Sorry Old Bethpage. Sorry Wardenclyffe, which is cool though not very accessible, BTW).

She also said awhile back the sign on the door said be back at 2pm, out to lunch but noone ever came. Today however the sign said be back at 10am. So who knows. Not sure if it's shut down or just closed til summer. However still great to go visit to...
Read moreFrankly one of the most jaw dropping monuments I've ever seen in my life, and let me tell you, I've seen many. From Mount Rushmore to the Great Wall of China, no other political and societal centerpiece has spoken to me as much as The Big Duck. When I pulled up to the parking lot this fine afternoon, I was immediately moved by its majestic and towering head... it's wings are magnificent and evoke deep rooted feelings of upward motion and energy... This duck almost feels like an homage to America itself... a waterfowl vanguard meant to rival the likes of The Statue of Liberty. Nothing more powerful could be dutifully watching over New York and her weary denizens. The Big Duck is the...
