Don’t bother! We looked up lighthouses to visit while on our trip to Long Island and found the Horton Point Lighthouse. We looked on their website and saw that the lighthouse was open on Sunday from 11am-4pm. We tried calling the phone number on the website but got voicemail in a Southhold office. We decided to make the 1 hour drive from Islandia. When we arrived there was no place to park and signs all over saying that parking on the street required a permit. We were confused so we parked for a few minutes to check with someone at the lighthouse. When we got to the door, it was locked up and no one was there. We returned to our car where a very nice police officer was standing by our car. She was very nice and told us that the lighthouse was closed due to COVID-19. She didn’t write us a ticket for the parking violation and that was very nice. However, if the lighthouse is closed, the people running the lighthouse need to update their website. They should also post a sign outside the lighthouse letting people know what’s going on and why their closed. We noticed a couple of houses next to the lighthouse and we think that one of the neighbors may have called the police when they saw us walk over to the lighthouse. If we lived there and constantly saw people parking in the street in front of our home, we probably would call the police also. This could all be fixed by the lighthouse giving batter updated information on their website and on their property. We later read on another review that there really wasn’t anywhere to park. We’ve visited a lot of lighthouses and this one was a total waste of 3 hours of our day. Visit Fire Island and Montauk, you will be...
Read moreI didnt go to the lighthouse on my trip here. We had a friends and family gathering o. the park grounds. It is a beautiful place with a pebble beach just below it. The stairs to get down to the beach are sturdy and strong but there are a lot of them coming back up i would suggest pacing yourself if you aren't a very physically fit person. Also the neighborhood that the park is in has permit only parking on the street so be sure to park in the lot if you are visiting for a while. The police were giving out tickets during...
Read moreThe place looks beautiful but it was not open as indicated on the website, couldn't even get in the parking lot and the town was giving tickets to everyone parked on the street if you didn't have a town sticker. They could have at least leave the gates open so people could park on the premises but I guess the town feels they will make more money by giving tickets, so sad. Those stairs though, they...
