LATEST UPDATE: Went back to Mary after a 3 year hiatus. Rode Hercules for two days. The riding was as rugged (or more) as I remembered. Lots of it off-trail. It was once again such a steep learning curve. Thought I'd forgotten a lot since last time, but Mary is a great teacher who inspires confidence so we were back up and running in no time, literally:-) UPDATE: Went back to Mary’s for more! The more I’m learning about horses and riding, the more I realize how unique Mary’s approach is. There’s nowhere else where you progress this fast and ride in rugged terrain. Wild and free! That said, Mary knows what she’s doing: she sizes up rider and horse right away, and in her own casual way keeps a close eye on all. She matched me up with a hotter horse than I’d ridden before...I wasn’t sure, but she was. It was a love match! Me and Missy, we were meant to be:-) Can’t tell you how much confidence I gained. Cantering through the woods solo, up steep inclines, down gully’s and creeks, through mud, and over logs, trail or no trail it doesn’t matter. To imagine I was a complete beginner just a millisecond ago... Meanwhile my dog Bo was having a blast keeping up with us and getting fat scavenging the stables. I would have come back just for the riding and the dog friendly attitude, but Mary herself is really the heart of the operation. Big personality and bigger heart. Can’t wait to come back and hang with Mary again! (Honorable mention for her equally amazing friend Sue who came to help.) ORIGINAL REVIEW: If you really want to learn how to ride, or improve your skills, this is the place hands down. Mary teaches like no-one else. She taught me how to ride several years ago. I had never been on a horse before - except a carnival pony. 4 days with Mary and I was cantering through the woods solo. I recently went back for a refresher, hadn't ridden in years, and within hours I was jumping logs and crossing streams. Mary's no-nonsense style and positive can-do attitude really help build riding confidence. Most importantly, she just lives and breathes horses, she really knows her stuff. On top of that she is just a phenomenal human being and a pleasure to be around. I'm a fan.

Adventure Horse Riding was the MOST amazing horse back riding experience I’ve ever had!!! My boyfriend wanted to surprise me with this awesome experience in the Adirondacks for Memorial Day weekend, he contacted Mary and organized every detail. Mary replied quickly and clearly and provided us with clear instructions, prices, details and address. Upon arrival everyone was VERY friendly and engaging, we signed the clearly written waivers, reviewed how to ride the horses, how to go forward, stop, to go around trees, over logs, etc., and chatted and laughed together. We met our horses, saddled up, and with clear instructions from Mary and Kathleen, we began to ride safely nearby the barn and practiced our skills. Mary and Kathleen stayed with us the entire time and made us feel completely comfortable and safe through their demonstrations and their verbal instructions and encouragement. We then traveled together through the trails, up and down hills, over logs, around beautiful green trees. It was an experience of a LIFETIME!! We experienced the full time we paid for on the horses in the trails :) and it was the most AMAZING experience I have ever had!!! This was hugely in part to Mary and Kathleen and their AWESOME and clear instructions, GREAT teaching skills, and confident and calm demeanors. I would HIGHLY recommend Adventure Horse Riding if you would like to experience the MOST SPECIAL horse back riding experience of your life!! I can’t wait to go back!! 5 out of 5 stars!!

Wanted to take the family horseback riding in the Adirondacks near our camp, so I Googled all the available places and read all the reviews to make an informed decision. Only 1 place had all 5-Star reviews and it was Mary from Adventure Horse Riding! Boy did I pick the right place to go.....Mary is a doll and totally in love with her horses. She truly cares about her horses first and wants to make sure her guests have a great ride and an enjoyable experience. 3 out of our 4 family had never ridden a horse before, so you can imagine they were all quite nervous. Mary took her time to explain to us in great detail horse psychology and what the horse needs and expects from its' leader...the three "L's" as she explained it, Love, Language, and Leadership. We spent at least an hour just talking about the horses and what to do before we ever saddled up, then we spent a good 30 minutes taking the horse around her barn, starting, stopping, turning left and right etc...then we went for a full 2 hour ride through the woods....no nose to tail ride here, we went through the woods, up hills, down hills, around trees, through creeks over 198 acres of stunning wilderness. We walked, trotted, and cantered. It was the highlight of our week in the Adirondacks! From novice to expert,, If you want the best ride, the best instruction, and the best overall experience, go here! You will not be disappointed. Thank you Mary! We will be back!

My husband and I just got home from our 2-hour trail ride with Mary and we couldn’t wait to post a review. We have gone horseback riding at many places over the years, and the difference with Mary at Adventure Horse is that it is a HORSE EXPERIENCE. You get to know your horse before you even get in the saddle, and the rest of your time is a beautiful horse ride where you are an active participant, not just sitting in a moving line and forgetting that you are even on a horse. Mary is absolutely wonderful - patient, courteous, funny, and so very knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge to make you more comfortable and build a mutual trust with your horse. We never felt out of our comfort zone with our horses, and Mary keeps an eye out and provides pointers that only improve your human-horse relationship. I felt comfortable asking her questions about my horse or what to do, and her answers always made perfect sense and are backed by years of experience. Mary has 200+ acres of beautiful woodland and you never see the same tree twice. While it is partly a learning experience, it is also a beautiful and quiet horseback ride. We will be telling everyone we know about what a gem Mary and her happy, healthy horses are (hugs to Dakota and Casper), and what an awesome time we had! Thank you Mary, we can’t wait to come back!

Right from the beginning when you meet Mary you know you are in the good place. She is fun and funny, warm and professional with what how she handles both horses and the guests coming. I have never seen horses being so calm but also energetic, responsive and well behaved. Thanks to Mary I have spent two hours exactly how I wanted. She warned me - for a good reason - that her horseback rides are no like any other. I felt little weird when she asked me at the beginning to maneuver the horse between the trees at the beginning. To be honest this is how it should be. For almost two hours she let me guide her around the almost nonexistent paths in the forest. Showing me nooks and crannies of her favorite spots. We were going through the streams and up the steep hills. Before you go you need to understand it is not “follow the tail” simple pleasure walk in the forest for those who sit on the horse for the second time. It is for those who are looking to forget about the world for a minute, who need a little adrenaline rush and be with nature as close as you can be. It is for those who love feel the horse breath and heart beat after the uphill gallop and for those who will not freak out when their stirrup falls on the ground..LOL It was beautiful, awesome and I already told Mary to expect me in late Fall for a ride.
