After finishing an NRF trip on the Mississippi we decided to do some birding in the Refuge by just taking a leisurely drive on the auto trail and it was great other than having to pull over for people who apparently come in to zoom thru to say they have been there I guess. We stopped and listened and watched and took videos and pictures of many birds we dont see in the city. The Refuge is a great place for birding or just taking a quiet walk or bike ride on its trails and enjoy the natural beauty. You owe it to yourself to come and see it. The pictures below are just a sample of what we saw in our 2 hours we spent driving and stopping on...

Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge is an excellent destination to check out if you are looking to experience wildlife in their natural habitat. There are many types of wildlife to observe, but above the birding here is absolutely phenomenal. There are many different species of birds that can be found in their natural habitat here. And the vast amounts of birds that are easily visible is mind blowing. This area is fairly primitive compared to state parks and the like. It will be mostly walking/hiking trails that comprise the area. If you are okay with putting in a bit of effort, you'll be rewarded with great...

The scenic drive loop is a nice car ride (gravel) that includes a stop overlooking the river. There are telescopes and posters that help you identify birds and various ducks. It's beautiful there. The Great River Trail parallels and intersects with the gravel car road, then continues on. If you are on the bike path you will need to jump on to the gravel road when it turns left and there path goes straight in order to get to the overlook. This refuge is...
