Would like to have rated the trail a 4 or 5; however, the lack of adequate and reliable markers tend to leave you guessing on which way to go sometimes. While making it near the top of the inside part of the loop, which is on the right of the register box when you enter the trail, there was no clear marker that directed you to the outer part of the loop that would lead you to the overlook. We actually found ourself on another trail that is connected to the Tusten trail, but eventually it looked like a path less traveled and was marked restricted. We decided to abort and turned back, repeating our hike in the opposite direction that we had just hiked, but uphill this time to the point where we then descented on the same side that we started. Next time we'll have to begin our hike on the left side of the register box, if we want to see the overlook. Nice workout, hiked an additional mile that we probably didn't have to if there were better markers, even on...
Read moreThis is a wonderful trail along the Upper Delaware River. It is definitely a little strenuous in spots, but I believe the view to be worth it at the top.
You start at the parking lot where you will cross over the historic arch bridge. You continue along the gravel road/path until the sign that says “trail” with an arrow. You will follow that trail until a fork where the tusten trail loop begins. I recommend going right at the fork as it is easier to go up and also slightly quicker and less drawn out. The ascent and eventual decent, that leads to the left path, will be much easier if you go up on the right path. Follow the yellow markers once you get to the fork mentioned above.
The top view is small and you may miss it if you are not looking out. Follow the yellow markers to be sure to get to the...
Read moreBeautiful trail, not too hard, but allows you to catch some breath, especially when approaching the highest point.
The trail starts at the parking lot near the stone arch bridge. You should cross the bridge and follow the red and yellow blazes and the dirt Tusten Road along the Delaware river. You leave the road turning to the right and you are faced with a choice: you can approach the mountain from the left, with a more steep, but shorter trail, or start the loop with a longer, more even one. Either way, the trail will take more or less 1-1,5h, 3 miles or 4,6 km and about...
