There are many places to go in Harriman Park, to go hiking camping and canoeing, however the Kanawauke picnic area is excellent for the following it has a picnic area you can cook on the park grills it has a bathroom and more importantly you can launch kayaks and canoes. I came here before the pandemic, as we drove from Astoria Queens through the famous 7 Lakes Drive. The view is amazing, the air is fresh and you just love being under the blue sky. I guess it took us around 1.5 hours drive from home.

Read moreA small-ish picnic area on the edge of lake Kanawauke. It probably parks about 40 cars, but there are maybe a dozen pinic tables and some benches along the lake. There are some paved trails that go through private cabins and if you cross the road you can head off towards the Bald Rocks. The boat launch is nice, you'll need a PPC sticker to launch your boat.
