It is a nice place. But unfortunately it's not all that big. Plan on maybe being there an hour or so if you do not bring lunch or hike some trails. People with mobility issues should be warned that there are a lot of uneven stones and steps to traverse. It is not really handicap friendly. But can be enjoyed by folks if they understand there can be issues. The main work is well done over one man's lifetime. Very impressive. But again not overly large to fill the day. The museum is a nice exhibit of basically antique tools. I enjoyed the museum more than the quarry itself. But I knew what the implements in the museum we're. Where as the family really did not. As such I found it more enjoyable. Parking is basically in the woods in a small clearing. then you walk a trail to the quarry itself. The entrance price is not drastically high, but I felt was a little over priced for what it was. Opus 40 is a nice place to visit if you have the time and are in the area. Although I suggest it not be the only thing you might have planned for the day. Some folks may be able to spend a whole day there. But I would bet that most folks will have lots of time left over to...
Read moreThe 4.6 overall review here feels really generous. I assume New Yorkers don't get out into nature much. We left quite underwhelmed after having spent $24 for 2 and it took a whole 22 minutes to walk the entirety of the trails of the grounds and I clocked about 3k steps total. In all honesty I didn't research it and was told it was 40 acres (hence the name Opus 40) and it was a sculpture garden, there was 1 stand alone art sculpture by an under utilized pond. While the stone quarry construction is truly impressive and consists of fun angles that are intriguing to the senses, we couldn't stand and wonder long as senior citizens were shuffling along its path and the small stale ponds in the quarry are a breeding ground for bothersome bugs that would love to get all up in your business. If you want trippy sculpture garden -visit Franconia in Taylors Falls, MN. IF you want other wordy mind blowing architecture in the same format of stone stacking- take the near impossible road trip to Chaco Canyon, NM- where I assume this artist drew his...
Read moreThis is such a peaceful oasis. I didn't know what to expect and came in without any knowledge of this concept of art. I thought it was perfect for kids to spend time outside and be in nature. I cannot recommend this for families with kids in strollers as it is not accessible. I found the location particularly serene as you had to some times go up stairs to go lower down in the quarry. I am disappointed to see reviews that say this is not worth it. If you are someone who loves being outside with a little respite and respect for a man-made maze of sorts, this is really such fun and relaxation. We spent only an hour there, so I understand people that think this is expensive, but I am thankful we had this time outdoors and the interdisciplinary aspects made the price worth it (ie learning about quarries, understanding the sculpture construction, being outdoors, learning about a slice of a different...
