We had the absolute BEST time in this museum—given the free nature of the museum and its location on Washington Island, we were so overjoyed to discover how many gems there were in this genuine, original construction of a Washington Island cabin. The guide working on-site was incredibly knowledgeable and more than happy to share information with us, including answering questions we had. Her love of history and the island was so clear it made the experience even more positive.

Read moreThis place is worth finding. Albeit it is kind of dusty as it is old. There are a lot of interesting artifacts here. If you are not observant and curious, you will lose interest quickly. The highlight of our visit was the docent. As we were the only customers there, she spent a good bit of time with us. I look forward to our next trip to the island, I'd like to talk to her again. She was a sweet person with the knowledge of an encyclopedia. Washington Island is a national treasure. This museum will help you understand why this is so. Read moreThis was the gem I was looking for! It’s an awesome museum! Small but chock full of interesting artifacts from and about the island. I came to Washington Island to look for some information on the oldest Icelandic settlement in the U.S. and found it here and nowhere else. The docent was wonderfully informative and spent time past closing to show me other resources that I might find at the Fair Isle Bookstore, which is another awesome gem on the island.
