It's a beautiful place to visit. The weather right now is perfect for it. First of all, make sure you arrive early because they have a very small parking lot and it fills up fast. The parking fee is $10 for the whole day. Make sure to bring appropiate shoes because the trail to the waterfall is very, very long, rocky, narrow and sometimes even slippery. You can easily twist or break your ankle so walk carefully.
Bring a backpack with plenty of water, bug repellent and some snacks if you can. I didn't think it would be that far, and I only brought water with me and my blood sugar dropped. Luckily someone gave me some snacks and I managed to finish the hike.
If you love nature, this is a very good place to go and decompress. Especially if you live in the city. Great views that make for beautiful pictures. Just be ready to walk A LOT. The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is because I feel like the signs are not accurate. It said 1.7 miles to the waterfall but you end up walking way...
Β Β Β Read moreWow. Great park. Ice cave hike very very nice. Amazing actually. I went with my gal who is not a serious hiker and at the very start if looks a little tough. But she is tough and we proceeded carefully, and then it does not get any harder, just cooler and cooler (literal and figurative). On the other hand, there was a couple who started behind us. While stopped. we heard them above and the young woman was scared, so they turned around and did not do the hike. At the end I wished I had known and so could have told her it was not so tough and to continue. She had suitable footwear and was young and fit, but out of her element. She would have loved it and felt very empowered that she did it (even though it really is not hard). Lol. Very good hike, not long if you do only ice caves. I hear the lake is also...
Β Β Β Read moreIncredible trail! We parked at Sam's Point and began loop trail which takes you to the ice cave loop. The ice cave and loop around lake and old blueberry cabins takes about 3, 3.5 hours. The trail around lake is plenty wide with loose medium size gravel so sturdy shoes. The ice trail loop is a single file only with lots of narrow passages, ladders, wet streams, rock stairs and roots....Definitely gotta be good on your feet. The trail is so fun...makes you feel like an explorer but with the safety of excellent trail markers! (There is plenty of incline walking as well so be prepared for that. ) We did not do Verkeerderkill Falls but look forward to coming another day to...
