This is the Five Ponds Wilderness area in Wanakena, NY.
It never fails to satisfy! Especially if you are looking for a calming place. Drive very slow, 10-15 mph, so you can enjoy the wooded dirt road. There are several parking spots/primitive camping spots to stop and get out of your car, and enjoy the surroundings and take pictures of things you want to remember.
There are beautiful ponds on either side of the road, the farther you go down the road into Forever Free Land. Odd shaped trees. Strange rocks formations in the middle of the woods. Beaver dams making special areas of multi-level terraces. Amazing nature!
I have never seen any wildlife in all my trips down the road into the deep woods. I always expect to, yet never do. Some of the woods have an eerie look the way they've grown: moss covered tree stumps and pine needle carpeting. Quiet. Serene.
I snapped a photo of a perfectly green moss covered rock. It is so smooth and wonderful to the eyes! This rock is perfectly covered with the most smooth green moss carpet! It felt so good to touch! So soft. Nice!
I hope you like my pics.

Couple a great hikes, Lows Ridge by dam was easier hike with great flat ridge suitable for lunch. Green pond ridge hike was tougher with some harder scrambling, but views were also fantastic. Lots of...
