users beware of boat patrol. it was the first time i was operating a jetski and user of the lake, and had gotten a 170.00 ticket for doing 20 mph after 6pm. seriously? i never heard of this before, but was told by the boat patrol to read the small writing on the main "welcome to big cedar lake" sign. do they know how hectic it is when you have a line of vehicles behind you at the boat launch, and you are supposed to read the fine print on the sign? didnt matter, a warning couldve educated me easily and wouldve prevented me from doing so in the future, afterall i was only going 20mph, but no warning was given, 20 mph must be way too fast. so i went to the preliminary court hearing, where if you want to try to negotiate the ticket, you arent doing so in front of a district attorney, instead you have to negotiate with big cedar lake's boat patrol supervisor! what the heck is that? so then i explain my case and ask for a dismissal of the ticket, telling him a warning wouldve definately educated me and prevented me from doing such in the future, but the supervisor told me that they cant dismiss the tickets written and would only reduce the fine by 27.00... what this supervisor acting as a district attorney doesnt know, is that a girl that had gone into her prelim hearing with him ahead of me is someone i know, who told me that he had dismissed her "no lifejacket" ticket due to her being "a college student who doesnt have alot of money". so i was lied to. very dishonorable. not a good first experience boating at...
Read moreThe boat patrol on this lake will harass you and pull you over constantly. It seems they are trying to drive out anyone who isn't using the lake for fishing or sailing. Tickets are always issued, no warnings. Ridiculous rules that are not well published. Seriously, such a shame to have this lake ruined by the people in charge. I used to purchase an annual fee, but won't give them my money anymore. and they are trying to purchase a new $60,000 patrol boat with your tax dollars! Go to the annual meeting on Aug 21...
Read moreA great place to go. Beautiful lake with lovely residents. Fishing is allowed with a permit and boating/towing is cool until sundown. After that, you can still use the boat but you can't tow or have a wake. There is a nice sandbar that is on the east side of the lake. Ask around and locals will show you where it is. Also offers great restaurants accessable by boat ⛵ or car. If you have a canoe or kayak, you can hit up Gilbert lake by going to the north end and heading west....
