The reservoir is located in Westerlo, New York and was constructed from 1928 to 1932 by damming the Basic Creek and flooding former farmland and forest. It is bisected by the Albany County Route 404 causeway.

This is a really nice place. Fishing is awesome. Plenty of fish to catch. Really long, perfect shore fishing. This year (2023) for some reason it has been a nightmare with heavy grass in the water. Can't really fish without dragging tons of it. Some spots are better than others but overall is a really nice spot. Besides the fishing there are bald eagles which fly over the reservoir and is just awesome. JUST MAKE SURE TO HAVE FISHING LICENSE AND RESERVOIR PERMIT TO FISH HERE.! YOU NEED TO HAVE IT OR WILL HE KICKED OUT. (AND YES.! THEY CHECK IT EVERY...

I go for birdwatching, great spot for it. Lots of places to pull up and get different views of the waterfowl so long as you get your permit at the city of Albany water dept. - $10 and good...

Just drove through and made a brief stop at the parking lot on the west side to see if any birds were around. It is scenic, but the required permit is a bummer. Saw on line...
