My family of five took a trip to Rolling Hills back in August. I mean WOW, if I could give this place 10 stars I would!!! My three boys still talk about it every day! From the moment you arrive, you immediately feel like you are in a place of true rest and relaxation. We absolutely loved everything about this incredibly beautiful and well-maintained property. You honestly feel like you are in a different world!! If you are looking for a place to relax, unwind and de-stress, this is the place to be!!! The cottages were impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. Rustic luxury perfection! I couldn’t believe how spacious they were. You could easily fit three families there. We loved grabbing fresh produce every morning from their farm and making our own breakfast. You get fresh eggs, milk, beef, pork, lamb, vegetables every day to cook/barbecue at your own cottage. S’mores by the campfire every night were of course my kids favorite. My kids absolutely loved spending time with the farm animals. They even did farm chores in the morning picking the eggs from the chicken coop and feeding the animals. I mean wow, what a truly amazing experience that was! The private beach was beautiful. We did boating, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding the list goes on and on. We have three boys ages 15, 6 and 4 and everyone could find something they could enjoy. We went on beautiful hikes that are set only few minutes away. The waterfall hike was absolutely breathtaking! The views were magnificent, overlooking the spectacular Lake Champlain. The wine tour and tasting was top-notch and introduced some unbelievably beautiful-tasting wines from upstate NY. The staff was incredible top to bottom. I can not say enough about Mellisa. She communicated with us several times prior to arrival, so the check-in process was smooth sailing. She absolutely went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. She was always available to answer any questions we had. As for the rest of the crew….absolutely incredible!!! Courteous, prompt, and pristine. The highlight of the week was undoubtedly the Saturday evening 5-course dinner. You will not get a better experience anywhere!!! All I can say is that we can not...
Read moreRolling Hills Estate Winery is the sort of place that leaves you dreaming about it for months and years after your visit. Nestled in the heart of the Champlain Valley of New York AVA, on the shores of Lake Champlain and just across from Vermont, Rolling Hills is the perfect place to slow down and spend time with friends and family.
My wife and I had the good fortune of attending one of the seasonal group dinners. With weather in our favor, we sat outside the tasting barn at long decorated tables, the campfire flickering and crackling across the path, the lake breeze gently cooling our necks. We were served beautiful and delicious courses prepared by a delightful chef, whose dedication to detail and exuberance for craftmanship were evident both in the meals he and the staff served as well as his descriptions of what we were about to eat and drink.
Perhaps it is what we drank that shined the brightest. The wine was produced just a few feet from where we sat, with most if not all of the grapes grown on Rolling Hills' vineyards. La Crescent, St. Croix, and Marquette Appasimento were my favorites, and I walked away having purchased several bottles. Drinking them at that dinner, surrounded by cheerful people and the forest, was like savoring a love letter penned by the Adirondacks.
We had the opportunity to learn more about Rolling Hills' wine and its winemaking process. The winemaker, Dan, happily showed us around the winery. We learned about the AVA (American Viticultural Area) and the grapes and terroir that represent it. We were impressed by his passion for and knowledge of winemaking, which seemed inspired by ancient practices. Growing grapes and making wine in an environment like the Adirondacks must be brutally challenging, but Dan's pioneering spirit and pursuit of excellence seem like the right combination to succeed.
Missy and her team have done such an incredible job with Rolling Hills. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcome like family. My only regret is that we left too soon. Thankfully, though, we have these memories and a few bottles of wine to soothe us and remind us that truly happy moments in...
Read moreWhere to even start?!?!? From the moment we met Dan at the gate to the moment we drive through the gates for the last time we were living in a dream wonderland. The property is pristine. The mix of vineyards, woods, farmland, barn life, and the lake exceeded our expectations. Our townhouse was perfect for our crew of 6 adults and 3 kids (under the age of 6). Mind you, we came during the peak of a heatwave and the staff made sure to have air conditioners prepared for us…trust me they were needed! The kitchen is fully stocked and the charcoal grill on the patio was perfect for our daily cookouts. The daily meat list to choose from was never-ending and they cooked up perfectly. There was never a full moment. We fished off the dock, went kayaking and canoeing, the kids played on the beach, and we can’t forget helping farmer Matt with the barn chores! The wine tour was great and the tasting was even better. Nightly s’mores at the tasting barn with a cocktail from the bar was a great way to end the evenings. We loved that it was a car-free property so having the golf carts to get around were very convenient and the kids loved taking turns driving them around. The best part was the attention that the staff gave to each and every one of us. They would stop from whatever task they were doing and chat with us and check if we needed anything. I can honestly say that we will be coming back to Rolling Hills Winery and making this a regular home away from home! Thank you to all of the staff for making this trip a...
