I was visiting GV&CM in Mumford and needed some tomatoes for a quick BLT dinner. Google revealed this little gem and I'm so happy we went.
There is a lovely, whimsical, family-farm feel to Coyle's. The attendant (owner, gardener, creator extraordinaire) was friendly and shared about the history of this cute pumpkin patch.
It's a perfect, low-key, less fuss patch, with small to medium sized pumpkins that aren't unwieldy or shockingly costly (these aren't sold by the ound, either; at other farms my son's have unwittingly picked some pretty pricey pumpkins, these are all a flat, predictable and also very affordable price).
There's a quaint area with sheep and a goat that you can feed for a small charge. Like the humans drawn to Coyle's, they were enjoying pumpkin! See photo
There's a vintage truck, as every farm should have one, and it has an adorable goofy driver if you take. A moment to look.
My son was delighted be new kittens that the farm has adopted. Three so lings with very distinct purr-sonalities. They were perfect hosts and wed gladly fo back to see them as they grow, even if it is a bit far for us. Regarding distance from Rochester, It was about 35 min. The weather is gorgeous and the dall views are idyllic. It's truly a lovely drove. Take the slow roads and enjoy the views. The sun str ami g through the gold, rusts, and reds of the trees and the sun dancing off the fields was truly a large part of the delight in our little adventure. It's not a farm you need hours or a wallet full of cash to visit - no long lines with a commercial feel. That said, it's a lovely, peaceful stop, where you know you are supporting generational farming, supporting the natural world while so much farm land is being sold for more commercial development - I worry about how we'll all eat one day, I confess I value preservation and conservation).
Coyle's is a lovely place to embrace the Fall season. My twelve year old son had a great time, and I would say, that it's extra friendly to "littles" or sensorily overwhelmed. On a later Sunday afternoon, there were no crowds, just a handful of individual families, and so much space for all of us. We spent about 40 minutes petting the kittens, picking produce to take home and debating between fall decorative items that are for sale, too.
Important fun alert: They have a very affordable MYOS "Bring the Shirt and Jeans and Make your Own Scarecrow.
It's very peaceful and welcoming with soo many squash varieties and plenty fo pie pumpking to turn into scrumptious savory meals or sweet treats.
I highly recommend Coyle's - If you're visiting Genesee Village & Country Museum, you should definitely make the tiny extra drive to Coyle's... Their tomatoes taste amazing, too, even so late in the season.
Nitty Gritty details: Parking was a breeze (free) and there is a porta potty if needed, no hot food for lunch or a snack like at the regions largest farm fun place. For me, that was a win, I didn't want a "3 hour tour that become a Marrining on an Island" just some tomatoes, squash, and simple...
Read moreAbsolutely LOVE coming here ! We spotted this place one day on a motorcycle ride . They have so many pumpkins , different sizes and kinds very inexpensive ! They also have things inside the barn to purchase like local donuts , cider , vegetables and more ! They have some farm animals also that kids can go up and pet and feed . They had a little pony , two cows and some goats . My toddler loved seeing them up close and getting to pet them . They also have a beautiful sunflower field that had paths you could walk through . I love being able to support a small local place . The owner is such a sweet woman and came out to talk with us ! I purchased all the pumpkins in my trunk as well as a 6 pack of cider donuts for $21 , I felt like I needed to pay more for all of that but that’s just how awesome they are ! I’d much rather come here than go to one of the bigger farm pumpkin attractions . Check them out for the best experience...
Read moreIt's in the middle of nowhere, rural roads and little traffic. And peace. There are 3 goats - goats that they keep- who are friendly, and the most gorgeous tom turkey, with all his colors blazing. Were used to brown wild turkeys, so this was delightful. There's a cornfield with paths cut into it- not a maze, no getting lost here- and pumpkins, gourds, squash of many kinds. The boys got pumpkins and I bought a couple of unique squash. We ate lunch, the boys seated in the trunk of my car, legs dangling. There is no food truck, no parking lot. It's about as rustic a day as you could ask. If you're looking for entertainment and dining, go to another pumpkin palace, but here is a simple time, quiet, languorous. Prices for produce are well below farmers'...
