UPDATE: Management reached out and were wonderful. Showed understanding and empathy. Gave us a full refund and free tickets to use in the future. Truly excellent customer service just earned them return customers. Other businesses should take note!

I wanted to love Stokoe Farms. My kids were so excited to come to the pumpkin patch as we had been planning it for a month. After traveling from out of town and getting rained out on Saturday, we returned on Sunday with high hopes. There were some fun activities for the kids, but I can’t overlook the terrible customer service I received from the dark-haired girl in the gift shop. Since I was traveling I only had my Amex with me, which I’ve never have any issues with (I was in Mexico last month and had zero problems).
After a few hours, we decided to take a break and get some much-anticipated apple cider donuts. My kids were beyond excited and had been waiting weeks since we were rained out the day before. When I handed my card to the girl (dark hair) at the counter, she abruptly pulled her hand away and said, “I don’t take Amex.” I asked if there was any other way to pay and she said “nope, I don’t know what to tell you” with a frown on her face. The crazy thing is, there was another lady nearby who saw my kid’s faces and heard the whole thing. She just looked at us and shrugged. I asked if I could take the donuts down to the mining/feed stand and pay there, as I previously paid with my Amex to purchase food for the animals. Not missing a beat, she fired back and said there was no way she was letting me leaving the shop with the donuts. I even offered to Venmo or Zelle MORE THAN THE PURCHASE PRICE to any staff member as a last ditch effort, and she again refused. After my Amex card wouldn’t work at their ATM, we were left stuck and disappointed. We couldn’t get any food or snacks whatsoever, and there’s no payment warning anywhere on their website or the grounds.
Why would you have some activities accept Amex but not the main gift shop?! I literally paid for our tickets with my Amex via Apple Pay. With a bad taste in our mouths from the treatment we got, we packed up and left in search of other donuts nearby. We managed to find some delicious donuts at Robb’s Apple Stand about 20 minutes away. It was more than worth the trip with incredible donuts (and they were all as friendly as could be). My kids wouldn’t stop talking about how rude the ladies were at Stokoe, and it was confusing for them. It clouded what should have been an enjoyable fall day...
Read moreI want to start on a positive note by saying this place is super cute for kids with lots to do. However, I planned a party for my son’s first birthday and called to confirm details, never got a call back as they were busy at the moment. I understand as I too own a business. Called back the next day which was the day before and was told we left you a VM. That’s confusing as I have a smart phone with no issues receiving calls and VMs and certainly did not get a call back but I’ll chalk it up to calling the wrong number, mistakes happen. It felt rushed and I wish we had of reviewed details, I wish we had an email or something with the details because maybe what I’m about to complain about could have been avoided. I had spoke to them months ago about the party. Apprently we paid for just a table which I thought we had discussed pizza and drinks and had WANTED to pay for. I was told plates and cups would be provided. The plates were the tiniest paper ones possible. There weren’t even napkins on the table. The table didn’t even have a cloth, absolutely nothing. It was cold and just not welcoming at all. During the party the coordinator came up to us and said we never ordered a pizza in the middle of my son’s first birthday. We were all confused as it was also marked off and I genuinely though months ago we discussed this, maybe I’m super confused by everything but wanting to avoid being uncomfortable and focus on my son, I offered to pay for it and was told no but continued to talk to me about the entire situation. In front of my guests. Multiple people came up to me and commented how rude that was and I honestly was embarrassed. It overshadowed my sons first birthday. Something I will always remember. Lastly everyone complained to me that they were walking around with no idea where to go as when they asked at the front where to go for my sons party they were told “I don’t know”, multiple of my guests came up to me and complained about this. Overall I would say definitely go for fun but don’t ever try to plan a birthday party there, it’s not worth it. It’s something I’ll always remember. Extremely...
