𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐓𝐨 𝐃𝐨 𝐈𝐧 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥 🍂 1. Take a glamping trip to @autocamp For the month of October, they have their own pumpkin patch on the grounds. 2. Go Apple Picking at Boehm Farm. 3. Check out the Five State Lookout Point. It’s completely driveable, no hike needed. 4. Go on the many hikes. 5. Visit the Karma Triyana Dharmachakra Tibetan Buddhist Monastery. It was extremely peaceful for the entire family. 6. Explore the charming town of Woodstock and stop at the very cute Sweet Dreams Organic Ice Cream. 7. Explore the nearby vineyards such as Whitecliff Vineyard at Hudson, Millbrook Vineyards and Winery. 8. Explore Tinker Street and it’s many restaurants. 9. Pay homage at the Woodstock Cemetery. 10. Check out the many Art Galleries. We stumbled upon one where the famous artist Stephen Kerner and his wife gave us a lovely tour and even showed us their resident Amazonian Macaws inside the retreat. Aroha got to bring home two of their feathers. 📍 Autocamp Catskills @autocamp 𝐒𝐀𝐕𝐄 & 𝐒𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐄 🍂 . . . . #catskills #upstatenewyork #newyorkfall #newyorkfallfoliage #fallfoliage #newyorkglamping #nycgetaway #familyfalltrip #nypumpkinpatch #newyork #nycfallactivities #nycfallfoliage #dametraveler #beautifuldestinations #glamping #luxurycamp #nycbloggers #damestravel #travelphotography #mommyandmefashion #traveltheworld #mommyandmephotoshoot #luxurytraveller #girlslovetravel #shetravels #shewanders #luxurytravel #mommyandme

The KTD Buddhist Center is truly a special place. As the North American seat of the Karmapa and the Karma Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, it carries a deep sense of history and spiritual significance. From the moment we arrived, we were met with warmth and kindness. Khenpo Sangye Trinley gave us a wonderful welcome, personally showing us around and sharing insights about the monastery and its profound teachings. The atmosphere was peaceful and inspiring, perfect for reflection and connection. Lunch was also a highlight, delicious and vegetarian, served in the serene setting of the center. Whether you’re visiting for a retreat, a teaching, or just to experience the space, KTD is a place of genuine hospitality and wisdom. Highly recommend!

I have been to KTD four times, each one a treasure. When thinking of KTD I call it “My Mountain Home", it’s just the name I’ve assigned to this wonderful monastery. It humbles me to think Khempo Karthar Rinpoche has been working quietly since I was one year old, to help KTD flourish and share the Buddha Dharma with everyone. You might not understand immediately, however, be prepared for perhaps a few unexpected surprises that you take home in your heart!

People come to KTD for different reasons, and from all paths. Divorce, cancer survivor, curious, just had a baby, dharma practitioner, supporting a friend or family member, etc… and from all economic situations, you do not need to be perfect to be welcome.

This is a gentle yet vibrant environment, and I recommend keeping an open mind without a preset idea of what you will experience. Authentic Dharma instruction taught by highly qualified Lamas, masters, and scholars is offered in a very respectful atmosphere. It tickles me to see folks walking about that I recognize from H.H. Karmapa’s teachings.

The monastery itself is beautiful with a purpose, the care and love H.H. Karmapa has for all sentient beings catches your eye everywhere you look.

Room accommodations are very clean and modern; please note the weekly rates and also a scholarship is offered on most teachings. Children are welcome. If you would like to do a personal retreat you can make arrangements as well. The dorm option is my favorite because it is located in the lower level of the Shrine building, and I truly appreciate...

First you climb a majestic mountain (by car or foot) and arrive in Heaven... KTD serenely sits at the trailhead base of Overlook Mountain and the surrounding mountains embrace you with pure wind and spirit. When you enter this Buddha world, you're first greeted by beautiful Dahlias, other flowers, Tibet prayer peace flags, a smiling lover of music Khenpo Karma Tenkyong, other master teachers, warm staff, and friendly people. When you register for a class retreat you have the auspicious opportunity to experience the shrine room in a unique, dynamic way. His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, and other Holy enlightened people have graced the shrine room... Khenpo Karthar Rinpoche, the Abbot of Karma Triyana Dharmachakra, guiding presence can always be felt. Peter from the book store, placed a Khenpo Kathar Rinpoche Blessed Om Mani Padme Hum prayer wheel in the free section and my Heart leaped for the Mantra. Lama Kathy helped and imparted the Mantra to me and I am now practicing at hOMe. What a Blessed place... KTD's precious gifts are immeasurable... I will keep coming back all the...

If you are looking to connect with the authentic teachings of the Buddha, this is the place to be. Just to sit in the beautiful shrine room, surrounded by many blessed statues, paintings, brocades, offering lamps, and the exquisite wall and ceiling paintings, is enough to experience the calming of your mind. It is a scared space. The blessings over the years from all the great masters that have taught there and all the practices that have been done and dedicated to the welfare of all sentient beings, is palatable.

There are many classes available, as well as teachings by great Tibetan masters and highly trained lamas, monks, and nuns, and tours of the main shrine room and the various smaller shrines, which includes information about the buildings and the history of the monastery.

The mountain views from the grounds and from the monastery are spectacular.

There is always tea available in the dining room and often snacks of blessed food, leftover from various offering practices.

Be sure to call or stop by, pick up a schedule at the front desk, and take advantage of this rare opportunity. You are always...
