This is the most beautiful park I've ever been to! The views are amazing, and there are plenty of hiking trails ranging from easy to difficult. If you have a chance, check out the Sugar Maple Trail. The Pictured Rock Cave is absolutely breathtaking! This is a more difficult trail and we did have to climb over/under some fallen trees. My 8 & 12 year old daughters did this trail, but not without a lot of complaining. We have also done the Sand Cave Trail, which is moderately difficult, in my opinion. You can't get up close and personal with the caves within this trail. The Bluff Trail contains the Treasure Cave, which was also very beautiful. The Homestead campsites are large and fairly private. The animals are VERY bold, so make sure you lock up your coolers! We were sitting around a campfire the first night, and a raccoon came out and helped himself to some food on our picnic table about 10 feet away from us. Then about 15 minutes later, a skunk came out to scavenge. It got within just a few feet of us. My oldest daughter was terrified! Once we turned in for the night, the raccoons came back and tried getting into our cooler. I had to turn my car alarm on to get it to go away. They often have fun activities for the kids, so that is a plus. Last time we were there, we were disappointed that the playground by the Homestead Campground was torn down. They were doing some work there, so not sure if they were updating the playground or putting something else there. All in all, this is a great park for camping, hiking, and taking in the beautiful views. I would highly...
Read moreWe just finished a 5 day camping trip here in the Wisconsin Ridge area in site 142, June 2011. The view was nice if you kept your eyes on the eagles, vultures and the river valley. Just bothered me to see the lights of Wal-Mart and the city there at night. The showers were individual rooms and clean-very nice. The grill around the fire ring was very busted up as were others in the area which made it difficult to cook on, but we managed. We did have time for about 4 of the 12 or so trails and enjoyed the diversity and beauty. Kids especially loved Treasure Cave and Sand Cave, though the trails were treacherous due to recent rains. As fairly novice paddlers, we did take our canoe into the Canoe trail but got brave with the river up and took a circuitous route, which had us wading through shallows. Not something the kids will forget soon. They won't forget the raccoons either. They were so bold. One night, I was sitting on one end of the picnic table and felt movement behind me and it was a raccoon just investigating. The winds were pretty high on the bluff but we didn't have to fuss with bug spray. Overall we had a great time and look forward to coming...
Read moreWe spent Labor Day weekend tent camping here this year. We've camped at other state parks, but Wyalusing is the best in the area. Beautiful scenery, trails, and great amenities. The pit bathrooms were redone since our stay last year and they're pretty impressive for pit bathrooms. Lol We did have some aromatic visitors all 3 nights of our stay (2 skunks whom my kids named Flower and Rodriguez). They were as respectful as critters can be, but so were we. I will warn about the chiggers at the campsites. Both times we've gone, I have been massacred by the little biters within hours of being there. I completely forgot about them this time and although I switched from Sandals to shoes within 2 hours of getting to the site, the damage was done. Other than that, this is place is a MUST...
