While the park and the campsites are beautiful the staff and park rangers here were astonishingly rude and unprofessional. The website has a list of rules and regulations including the “quiet hours” where there is vague mention of no music or tv after 10pm. This is pretty standard of most campsites and completely reasonable. A few friends and I rented out two sites pretty far away from eachother for Labor Day weekend, seeing as everything was pretty booked. This is a special weekend for us every year and is an opportunity for us all to catch up with eachother. We always make sure to stay respectful of rules and we have NEVER had issues at any other campsite. For some reason this campground rents out a campsite in between two RVs that belong to camp managers. These RVs are mere feet away from the site. Despite multiple instances during the day where we were spoken down to and treated like children by camp staff, we were constantly being watched. It was so uncomfortable and never a position I would spend money to be in. This campsite has an enforced bedtime that they do NOT state on their website. When quiet hours rolled around we turned off all music and gathered around the fire to chat. We had someone on the staff not only reprimand someone for laughing, but had a especially unprofessional encounter with a male on staff. While it was later in the evening, we made extra effort to keep our volume no louder than a normal speaking voice and were confronted by a shirtless campsite manager that felt comfortable enough to not ask - but yell at us to go to bed. It became very evident that “quiet hours” means absolutely no speaking after 10pm. However seeing as we all paid money to camp on Labor Day, we decided to move to our other campsite so we weren’t bothering anyone else. The campsites are pretty spaced out so we set up a lantern on our picnic table and huddled around it so we didn’t need to talk as loud. As it got later in the evening we progressed to whispering. I was woken up in the morning by a park ranger, absolutely convinced we had thrown a party at our campsite with the evidence that they had received apparently a ton of complaints about us speaking to each other that evening, even though the campsites surrounding us were plenty far away for our conversation to have been disturbing, and everyone was fast asleep. She let us know they have a “two warning” policy and that we had to leave. they did not refund us for our third night. This policy is not stated on the website or anywhere at the campgrounds, and we were not required to sign anything stating that there is an enforced bed time. Absolutely nowhere is it stated that you are not permitted to talk to anyone after quiet hours. I am still confused as two what our two warnings were, and if the shirtless man on staff who yelled at us was one of them, despite it being beyond rude and inappropriate. They also apologized to us for his behavior as we were being kicked out, which tells me they were extremely aware it was unprofessional and decided to take our money for the last night anyway. Do not camp here if you are looking for a peaceful and group friendly environment. The staff here made our entire group uncomfortable, and I know that grown adults always have the capacity to handle these situations with more grace and...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Cuivre River State Park
I had high hopes for Cuivre River State Park, but unfortunately, my visit was marred by several issues that made it hard to enjoy the experience. First and foremost, the staff was unhelpful and, in one case, downright rude. A supervisor named Alice was particularly unpleasant—she was dismissive and condescending when I brought up concerns, which left me feeling frustrated and unheard.
To make matters worse, the park appears to have a significant issue with stray dogs and cats. During my visit, I saw numerous animals roaming freely, and when I mentioned it to staff, I was told it was "not their problem." It’s concerning that the park does nothing to address this issue, especially given the potential safety risks.
Additionally, it seems the park doesn't enforce its rules effectively. There were multiple instances of illegal activity, including squatters camping in unauthorized areas and people parking overnight to hunt in restricted zones. This kind of behavior went unchecked, and it felt like the park turned a blind eye to these violations, making the environment feel unsafe and chaotic for law-abiding visitors.
The lack of management and enforcement of park regulations really detracted from what could have been a peaceful outdoor experience. I won't be returning, and I strongly suggest potential visitors be aware of these ongoing issues before...
Read moreOur first time at Cuivre River State Park Campgrounds was memorable! We have a travel trailer and stayed at site 100 (electric/water/sewer), which was an end site with wooded area on two sides of us. Campgrounds close to non-registered campers from 10pm-6am with a locked gate, accessible by key-pad to campers.
The park is adequately maintained; not as clean/tidy as other SP we have stayed at. Quiet, family and pet friendly. Minimal traffic on roads through camp sites. Walkers, bikers, kids, etc. could enjoy without much worry. There are 13 hiking trails, with two of those accessible right from the full hook-up loop and just steps from site 100. Miles and miles to enjoy!
Campground had kayak/canoe/paddle board rentals available at the check-in station/small general store, which was a short bike ride from site 100. Beach front on lake for seasonal swimming. Fishing areas on other areas is the lake, but not allowed at beach front.
Visitor Center/Park Office had a nice exhibit room that highlighted the history of the SP and how the CCC was responsible for its' creation.
Four negatives: 1) No shower-house in full hook-up loop; just restrooms. 2) Grill rack on fire pit was broken. 3) Many large downed trees on Lone Spring Trail required us to stray from trail to maneuver around. 4) Very narrow, windy road within SP with no shoulder.
Thank you Missouri State Parks for another...
