Logger Campground at Stampede is a perfect for your 'dry camping' Sierra Nevada experience. 40 miles from Reno and about 12 miles from Truckee, CA. The RV parking spots are asphalt paved and reasonably level and set among the fir and pine trees. There are sites that will accommodate 40' RVs. Plus there is plenty of room for tenting. The campsites are spread-out so you don't feel crammed together or bothered by your next-door neighbor's generator. Reservations are required (recreation.gov), but there are a handfull of 'first-come-first served' drive-up sites. Because the dam/spillway is being modified, access is via Hobart Mills. The road is mostly paved with some (short) gravel stretches and suitable for standard 2-wheel drive vehicles. Great access to Stampede Reservoir boat-ramp for all sorts of boating, water-skiing and fishing. There is a 'pay' dump station as there are no hook-ups at the sites. Vault toilets (kept very clean) and fresh water from community faucets are spaced throughout...
Read moreMighty nice lake. Mighty nice federal campgrounds. Well maintained last two or three years. Fed spent much time and taxpayers money cleaning the forest floor the last year or two. Fed now seems to understand how to maintain forest we are responsible for since local natives gone. Natives just set fire to maintain Forrest. Many signs and evidence that our Native Americans spent summers in this area. Back in the 50s i remember seeing heards of deer here. Now days lucky if i see one deer. Very sad to see one deer, a herd animal by nature, by it self. Nature made these deer herd animals! Sad.
Wind comes up in afternoon until near sunset most days. Fish Stocked in spring most years. Many discarded fishing lines near boat ramp. Makes for ugly hiking near boat ramp at all lake levels.
Dad use to say four seasons here, June,July,August and winter. Still his father raised 3000 laying hens near here near Polaris, every year from...
Read moreWent here for the weekend to go dirt biking And quading and we had a great time. The staging area is big enough to stage a few trucks and is well maintained. The trails to the right, (towards the reservoir) are more rocky and rough but the trails to the left, (opposite of the reservoir) are more smooth and easy going. They seem to be well kept and maintained. Last time we came was 4 years ago and since then, the trails have improved immensely. Some smaller jumps were even added in for extra excitement. I would definitely attend again. There is no staging fee of any sort so do your part and keep it clean so we can continue to enjoy what nature...
