I have had really good past memories about the rutledge corn maze and my husband had never been to a corn maze or haunted house before, so last night I had to take him to experience it for himself. We arrived at rutledge last night at 8:45. Prime time.. And being as it was the saturday before Halloween we were expecting to have to wait in line and were totally fine with that. After the hour and a half wait we were excited when it came our turn and we started through the haunted maze. After walking for about 30 seconds and being greeted by no "haunters" I started to think something seemed off. We walked through the entire haunted maze which took about 5 minutes and had only seen about 4-5 people the entire time who took one step from out of the corn, made an obnoxious noise and took a step back into the corn. It didn't take long for us to realize where the haunters were when we were practically hit in the face with the overwhelming smell of the marijuana smoke. We had smelled it outside the maze.. along with the kids behind us commenting on the smell and figured it was just some punk kids standing in line. It was definitely coming from inside the maze. The fog from the smoke machines seemed to trap the weed smoke down in the corn and make it worse. We don't have any issues at all with smoking weed, personally. But.. When it intervenes with our good time out, not to mention the $40 it cost, that's when it becomes a problem for us. Not to mention the corn maze advertizes itself as family friendly and 90% of the people who were there were underage minors, it seemed to be a vastly inappropriate time to use it and we will not be returning. This year at the rutledge corn maze was...
Read moreThe flooded parking and lack of lights in the parking lot or at all throughout the farm (including no lighting in the port-a-potties) made what could have been a fun trip feel a lot less safe. There were so many small potholes inside the farm area that everyone tripped a few times and it's really just luck that no one got seriously injured. Not at all accessibility friendly for anyone with mobility issues due to the holes, mud and lack of lighting.
The attractions were okay. The maze was fun but it seemed there were some areas where people had cut through, making it hard to tell what was and was not an actual path (leading us to wind up outside where we were supposed to be a few times, and jumping between mazes unintentionally 😂. The little games in the middle were cute and a fun way to fill time before everyone arrived (as it got more busy though, you wouldn't have been very likely to get a turn at any of the games).
The fire pit rental was a nice option. I just wish there would have been a bit more light (even just near the entrance of the area) so people could find it easier. I would say a little bit longer rental times would be nice too (like 3 hour blocks vs 2) to allow more time for people to get in, set up and enjoy their time (especially since the generator wasn't running when we came in).
Be prepared to wait in a long line to get in, even if you bought tickets in advance. So allow at least 20 minutes to park and get through the line.
Overall, a place I would try again BUT if the lighting is still an issue, I'd probably look for other options. I really hope the lighting is something they consider improving moving forward to make it a safe, family...
Read moreCorn maze was exciting and the ride to get pumpkins in the pumpkin patch. They had a gift shop with hot apple cider, t-shirts and other things line stuffed animals. One issue was frozen churros that came from a box, however the girls were nice and gave us a complimentary caramel sauce. I think fried churros are the best but they had a conveyer type heating method which unfortunately didn't cook the churros thoroughly. I took away a star for that and the fact we probably could've just snuck in without paying the $11/per person to get in. No check person to verify we even paid ??? They had a fire pit, games, chickens, wall mural, Halloween themed photo booths where u stick your face in (wooden photo booths). Corn shot game at the and of the corn maze and a kissing booth set up. They had a cow themed tractor pull for the little ones that looked like a John Deere tractor with about 10 individual cow themed carts being pulled behind. We had fun but I think it's probably more fun for adults with small children. For $11 basically I was able to go waking through a corn maze and riding on a tractor to go pick and pay for my pumpkins as the other things were more shifted...
