I attended the ranger-led walk and talk at Cap Rock at 7 PM, which was very much worth it. I learned about the geological formation of these rocks, as well as the diverse plant life and unique Joshua Tree species in the park. The next day, I explored the self-guided tour using the NPS app on my cell phone. It included an additional story at the Cap Rock stop.

To access this tour, it's essential to download both the NPS app and the JT-park content before arriving, as cell phone coverage within the park is minimal. I believe that the pullout immediately after turning toward Cap Rock is the ideal spot to listen to the Cap Rock story on the app.

Regarding the NPS app, I’ve noticed that while some other NPS venues have recordings that sound as if they were made in a broom closet by park interns, the Joshua Tree recordings are exceptionally well-produced and narrated by park...

I can be of 2 minds of something. While I can fully believe JTree should mark and celebrate Gram at / near this spot - the story is something iconic and legendary and at some point it's going to become mythic - but, that being said... I can't say I blame JTree/NPS for not doing so for... Obvious reasons.

It does make it slightly cooler and mythical to KNOW and see people milling around not knowing what happened at/near here.

Really something special to know and be here and listening to "In My Hour Of Darkness".

Cap Rock is a must stop for me anytime I come to JTree. Always a bit overwhelming standing in any spot where iconic history...

Short trail but some great unique scenery. This is fantastic park with a Flintstones kind of vibe to many of the rock formations. the geology and the processes that formed this place are unique to the area. Through in the Joshua trees and it feels like the land that time forgot. I only had a day to spend here but I will be back as the park is vast much of it only accessible by 4 wheel drive . This is an easy place to stop and wonder about on your way to lengthier treks. Google street view is your friend in this park as you can travel almost everywhere here virtually to get a good sense of the major trail-heads and...

Cap Rock, located within Joshua Tree National Park, is a truly awe-inspiring and one of the best natural formations in the park. Its stack of rocks is nothing short of breathtaking, and one can't help but be struck by the sheer wonder of how these stones have come to be so perfectly arranged. I would highly recommend a visit to this location, and for those seeking a truly memorable experience, I would suggest taking in the sunset from this vantage point. The 360-degree views of the park provide a stunning canvas upon which the wide range of colors of the sunset can truly shine and delight the senses.

Nice spot in Joshua Tree National Park for a short, easy, flat walk with views of rock formations, Joshua Trees, and desert plants. I'm a photographer and love this location for photoshoots since there aren't usually too many people around and the rocks here are fun to climb and make great photos. Sunset timing is absolutely beautiful! This is also a pre-approved ceremony spot so if you want to get married in Joshua Tree this is a good option (permit is only $120). Bathroom and a few picnic tables available near the parking lot.
