So my wife says "I want to go to the Lumber Museum," and I was proud of myself for not groaning and rolling my eyes. I mean...lumber? Really, honey? She doesn't even Pledge the furniture! Anyway, I was picturing a storefront full of dusty and broken interactive exhibits and a bunch of rusty saws. Boy, was I surprised when we pulled in -- what a huge, beautiful building! And all of the exhibits were big, colorful and really interesting, and I learned a lot (not sure if kids under 10 would appreciate most of them, but they'll love the rest of the museum). The campus is sprawling, with a train and several buildings from a lumber operation. We spent about 2 hours there. May have been longer -- lost track of time. I've been to some great museums in big cities -- this was nicer than most of those....
Read moreLoved the museum! The staff was wonderful and very polite. Everything was laid out fantastically. But this is another example of a place where higher up has an extreme prejudice against veterans. Only active military receive a discount but veterans any permitted anything. You'd think a museum, a place rich in history, would appreciate what veterans have done for this country. But no. Once you serve, just like so many others, they don't care about you anymore. Veterans are why we have the freedoms we have today. Be they veterans from the time of our fore Father's. Or today's veterans, we would not have out freedoms if someone didn't stand up, fight, and defend our great country.
Please, give veranda the same courtesy and respect you give...
Read moreI just visited for the first time a few days ago. It was a very impressive facility and very interesting to walk through. We came in the front door and paid admission (slight discount for AAA was nice). From there we walked all through the inside museum area and watched the video. The information was well laid out and very informative. I learned a lot going through here. Once finished inside, we made our way outside to the engine house. From there we checked out all the buildings beyond the engine house, down to the sawmill, boiler room, machine shop, etc. this outside exhibit was awesome. We spent a lot of time looking around and reading. I will definitely check this out again to cover anything I missed...
