This is a hidden gem! I lived near this place for many years and never visited. Today I needed to spare 3 hours nearby and noticed the park with some hiking trails on the map. Why not give it a try! Entrance to the park is totally not noticeable as it is more like the entry to the apartment complex beside. The road is bumpy and I didn't see any obvious sign. There are three parking lots with probably 70-80 spots (very rough estimate). When I was there in the early afternoon, it was 90% full. Most parking spots are not paved. With a few steps towards the trail head, there is a gate which is closed due to recent storms. Looks spacious inside and I guess it is the garden. Will definitely revisit this next time to see what's in there. There are two creeks joining at the start of the trails, and they have water flowing fast. The recent storms helped so much! It's so joyful to hear the sound of creeks. Definitely not dry creeks at this time! Then after the cow gate, there comes the hills. They are mild and beautiful. They looked so peaceful to me and immediately drew my strong desire to walk on evey one of them. The green color of low grasses made my eyes so comfortable, I felt blessed I had a picnic blanket in my car, and immediately returned to the car for it. With a little walk, maybe 0.6 miles, I was on the top of the first hill. There are three trees on the peak to fend off the sun. I lay the blanket down, and noticed the several iconic buildings of San Francisco in my sight. The arm sun, green grasses, wild flowers, sound of wind, remote car noise, houses and trees at the foot of hills, the bay, the Santa Cruz mountain range, cities especially San Francisco, and so on... What a spectacular afternoon! I end up spending the 3 hours entirely on that single spot. There will definitely be a lot more visits to this park in the future, especially in the winter and springs seasons. Five star, highly...
Read moreA mix of cultivated with natural wild plants with walking trails allowing dogs but may have wild animals. Picnic tables and benches along the garden paths but the cottage is private. Saw roosters and hens in cages and a huge cactus -- the biggest one ever seen! A hollow tree with a big hole and dried baptismal bowl with candles were part of the strange mix. The garden needs funding because it looks neglected unfortunately, but worth visiting. Nearby horses on hills might be for public riding...
