Update 6-1-19: The new playground, shelter and bathrooms are now completed and available for use. Pictures below.
Shor Park is a great place to take a short hike, walk the dog or just set and relax for a bit. The park has a short trail system made up of 3 trails. All of the trails are accessed from the same trailhead located near the parking lot. The first one is the Sassafras Trail which is .8 miles. This trail begins with a short downhill decent to a foot bridge that crosses the small creek. Once over the bridge the trail divides into a loop. Either way you choose to go you will have an easy uphill climb. The trail goes through prarie and alongside woods and a tall stand of pines. Keep an eye out for white tail deer which like to pass through on the way in and out of the adjacent Nature Center. Once around the loop it's back over the bridge and back up to the parking lot. This trail is easy and none of the hills are a challenging. Trail 2, The Blackberry Trail is .4 miles. This trail is also a loop trail and is completely level with no hills at all. This trail loops around a wetland area so keep a lookout for plants and animals who preffer a wetland habitat. Signs along the trail will make you aware of what to look for and educate you on the wetland habitat. This trail is gravel and cut grass, usually in good shape and a great trail for running or a short stroll. The 3rd trail of .22 miles is the Meadow Trail. This trail cuts directly through the wetland from one part of Blackberry Trail to another. This trail is also very flat and we'll maintained. Shor Park is a small park and currently does not have a play area or and other improvements but is still a great place for a family to spend time together enjoying nature. There is currently construction underway on improvements including a paved walking trail and shelter. Shor Park is a great little place to get out and enjoy the outdoors.

Read morePSA: The trails are infested with ticks. Two years ago a guy with some huskys told us his dogs were covered with ticks and advised us to check our dog and was kind enough to give us his spare tick key. We checked our dog and she too had about 12-15 ticks on her. We went home and gave her a bath, found many more ticks. We never brought her back to those trails to be safe. They recently opened a park by the wooded area of the longer trail. I thought maybe they did some spray treatments because of the park but once again, she had ticks on her when we left. Gave her another bath and thought it was fine until I found a tick crawling on the still slightly damp towel I had hanging to dry from the day before. Ticks are everywhere this time of year but when we go here, it seems that there is a 100% chance of leaving with an abundace of deer ticks. The PSA, please check your kids and especially dogs for ticks when you are leaving. I checked our kids very well and so far they are all-clear but dogs seem to be a favorite for deer ticks. It isn't...
Read moreI like this park because it is small and has a lot to offer. My son is autistic and loves it. I don't like that the swings have way too much padding under them, there's no space between the ground and swing for bigger kids, also the senor sound machine doesn't work and that's a big reason my son likes it. Other than that, it's an okay park. I do not like the towers that are spread out along the playground, they kind of look like beanstalks, my son being autistic he likes to climb whatever he can, but he does not know Danger. He climbs all the way to the top and doesn't know how to get back down. He's a big kid so it's very difficult for me to try and get him down. So if I turn my head for one second and he climbs up one of those things it's very dangerous. Just be mindful of how far it is off the ground, and make sure that your children can get down...
