Perfect for a family outing! Our 7-year-old loves to ride his bike in our neighborhood, but we don't often get to ride together because the street tears up our mountain bike tires.
Though this trail is paved, it's VERY smooth and won't eat away at soft treads. Very minimal elevation changes, so it's a great choice for small kids. There are some "share the road" portions, but it's very rural and we didn't encounter any cars along the way. We came across a rare pothole, but hazards are conspicuously outlined in red paint and easy to avoid.
The sun was setting so we only rode out about 3 miles from the parking area before turning around. Just in that short time, a train passed by (super cool) and we got to have a close encounter with a Blue Heron in the wetlands next to the trail.

Read moreI am not sure of the exact miles but I think it's 9.9 miles in one direction. This is not a loop trail, so round trip out and back is like 19.8 miles. This a paved trail with an easy level rating. I will agree with the rating of easy. There are some up grades but not to bad most of the trail is level. I completed the trail today and have not rode a bike at all in 6 years. The Ohio side is very bumpy and needs some work but it is only a small section but need to slow down for these bumps. The trail does run parallel with active train tracks. Not sure about restrooms, I did not see any, unless I missed them. I do believe there is a small store on the Ohio side but did not go searching for it. I am giving this 4 stars just because of the bumps and did not...

The little general store is not in Struthers. It's in Lowellville and it's called Ross's Market. There is a Porta-potty in Lowellville as well, on the other side of the train tracks, by a gazebo. There should really be another one somewhere.
The parking lot at the trailhead in New Castle is very small. Room for only about 10 cars. I can see that being a major problem on the weekends. Was a nice 20 mile ride out and...
