I had a wedding reception here and thought it was a good experience. The venue spaces--- including outdoors and bathrooms--- were clean and well-maintained and event staff seemed organized and responsive. The beautiful grounds include a pond, a gazebo, and a bridge and there are large windows for pleasant lighting. A lot of bathroom space for guests ensures no lines. The serving staff fulfilled their obligations. The only remotely unpleasant things that were their fault were that I had a dish taken away before I was done with it while I was away greeting people and that I was served something I am allergic to for the main course. The latter was fixed quickly. I would have give 5 stars for in-person experience.
However, the venue made wedding planning unnecessarily annoying by being unable to give us accurate information promptly; being unwilling to correct inaccurate information without prompting; and not giving us an actual tasting of foods we wanted to taste.
We emailed them a list of foods we wanted to taste from the offered choices in March and only got to try a single item from that list when tasting in May. They explained in-person that they literally did not have the desired foods from the list on hand. The venue did not warn us ahead of time and the employee who coordinated the tasting has not apologized to us by email or in person. I am insulted by their willingness to waste my time.
The venue is unable to give clients accurate information promptly. We were initially told that our options were only 6- or 10-person tables. We decided on 6-person tables, bought suitable centerpieces for the smaller tables, and asked for the seating chart. Instead, we were emailed a 10-person table seating chart. Later on, after we requested the 6-person seating chart again, we were advised that we could not have only 6-person tables and that there were now 8-person table options!
For another example of inaccurate information, when given the preliminary contract for the first time 3 weeks before the wedding, I was surprised to see that the due dates for headcounts and seating charts are a full week earlier than indicated in the initial handouts we were given.
Post-event, when we paid our final invoice, we were overbilled by about 11%. We emailed to let them know why this seemed to be so. Unlike with the tasting, the venue responded very quickly to rectify this problem and it was satisfactorily solved with a refund.
The lacking tasting and poor communication, both in terms of response time and quality, was frustrating during the planning phase. All of the event and post-event were great! Pre-event warrants 3 stars and event deserves 5 stars, which averages out to 4...
Read more"Twist and Shout" is an original musical play taking us on a ride through the 1960's from American Bandstand to the Age of Aquarius and beyond. The dozen scenes start with the early Sixties and end with Pop Classics, but there is great fun in between. This was our first visit and we thought the music was recorded until the end reveal which presented a seven-person one rocking band. Amazingly there is no bad language (cleaner than the era), so it is a great play to see with your kids and grand-kids. Eight actors sing and to a lesser degree, dance their way through vignette each with its loose plot. There were salutes to musical Broadway and the movies of the time as well as tributes to the British Invasion and the contribution of soul and Motown. While all of the actors were talented and entertaining, a standout was Tatiana H. Green. Her delivery starts at 100% and goes up from there. We found ourselves waiting for her to take front and center because she set the stage ire. Our seats at table F2 in the pit was great. I should mention the food since this was dinner theatre - not gourmet, but among the best I've had in a theatre of this type (I opted for pot roast and the fried potato pancakes. The veggies were the only shortcoming. Salad and coffee comes with the meal, but sodas, ice tea and, of course, alcoholic drinks, are extra. Save room for the dessert bar. Unlimited choice of mini-versions - a great way to serve it. There's a sugar free...
Read moreA friend recommended this venue to me after going with a group to a show. So…My husband and I went to the “lunch” Christmas at the Playhouse on a weekday. Everything seemed to run like clockwork as far as timing. All the employees encountered were welcoming, professional and helpful. The venue was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The food was decent (my husband thought the cod was dry) but did I mention the dessert bar with mini pastries? Yum! While my Diet Coke tasted off (maybe flat?), that is the only thing I could fault. You are served a small salad, bread basket, entree/potato/veg and unlimited coffee/tea/water (and desserts). These are included in the dinner show price. Bar drinks and sodas are extra. Note: If you only go for the show (no food), the tix price is significantly less. Our server Nenona was terrific! She checked on us frequently for anything we might need. The orchestra and cast were very talented, singing, dancing, acting out a story. There were Christmas hymns at the end (with large screen showing lyrics should you want to sing along). I definitely plan to go back for other shows in the future. (P.S. we’ve been to the Dutch Apple Dinner Theater in Lancaster and found the HHP much more spacious as far as table...
