Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art — Attraction in Upper Paxton Township

I attended a Fungi Forage event last weekend. Attendance was to the max. We started by learning some fungi education from PA's first appointed mycologist Hannah.& Another guy I'm sorry I can't recall his name .. We then split off into groups led by one of 3 fungi "professionals" & ventured on the trails to find whatever mushrooms we could. I probably annoyed our trail leader Emily by asking lots of different questions, venturing off the trail & just doing my own thing ...But she was very kind & informative & recommended an app to use when mushroom hunting. As usually I just Google image search them but there are so many that look identical.. it's not very useful. All the people in my group were great & varied from young preteens to senior citizens. I will definitely attend...

Did a Photography 101 school field trip and it was pretty decent since there were plenty of nice things to photograph. The guide was knowledgeable and was great with the kids. The walking bridge is iconic and the trail from the nature center leads up to the Lykens Valley trail. The ned smith center is a regional pride and joy location, named after our world famous local Wildlife photographer. The trails are well maintained and expansive. If you like birding this is a dream of a location, the creek is beautiful, and the building itself is really nice. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and they offer wonderful programs year round but especially during the warmer months.
