This trail head used to mark the transition from the Schuylkill River Trail to the local roads leading into Phoenixville. It still does that but now the trail also continues onward along the old canal path that runs between the canal and the river. You can follow this trail all the way into Phoenixville without ever getting on the road, avoiding the busy intersection where Walnut and Bridge Street meet.
This section is cinders and is frequented by fishermen and walkers so cyclists are advised to reduce their speed and enjoy the scenery.

This is 26.2 miles from where the trails start in Philadelphia. The trail is well maintained until you get into Philadelphia.
