Homer Lake Forest Preserve — Attraction in Urbana

A great place to go for a hike, take a shorter stroll, have a picnic, or do a little fishing. Beautiful preserve that we're lucky to have in Champaign County. My kids and I took a nice hike on a weekday afternoon and when we arrived there weren't many other people there. Even when more people are present, it's easy to feel separated from urban life along the trails here. Our trail took us through both woods and an open prairie full of wildflowers. I have been going to this park all of my life. I am well traveled, and I have to say that this is one of the best maintained parks I have been to. The lawn is mowed to perfection, the playground is nice, and the new play area/waterfall is tastefully done.

The park is also gorgeous in the fall and surpasses Walden pond in my opinion.

This park is great for walks, hiking, picnics, sledding, and taking the kids.

Peaceful relaxation in a scenic outdoor setting. Considering my most recent visit was on a weekday, I was pleasantly surprised to see so many kayakers and/or canoeists out on the water. There also seemed to be someone sitting on most of the docks, many of whom had a line in the water.
