I like Civil War sites and scenic views too. The information presented on the sort of sign like things was excellent. It may have been scenic long ago before the tall grass and trees grew. I saw the sign as I was nearing the top of a hill and from the highway I could see the buildings and the valley below. I was thinking since the road to the site rose uphill the trees would not be obstructing the scenic view. The parking areas where well planned allowing several spots to park in the shade. The circle with the information things looked very nice but I couldn't see what they were referring too. I saw several trails into the woods and tried a few before realizing they were probably deer trails not trails to the view. Nice spot especially for the Union army hopefully the next time I need to sneak around Baltimore to avoid traffic on my way to the very scenic National...
Read moreIt’s ok in the summer when the wildflowers and other plans grow in. They mow it all down late fall and then it’s pretty much just a grassy hill until the next spring. Honestly can’t see much through the thicket of trees that’s grown in on the hill so the “view” isn’t stellar. Also, no bathrooms or vending at this overlook so if you’re looking for a place to relieve yourself, you should be comfortable with doing so outdoors (there is a patch of woods you can hide in if you must lol) or you should travel a couple of miles north on 270 to the next exit where there are several gas stations that can accommodate you. You can only reach this rest area from the northbound...
Read moreThis is a great stop for some rest and to read about some Civil War history. Down the hill from this stop, an important battle of the American Civil War happened. There are several signs explaining the battle. However, there has apparently been a growth of brush and trees and, as a result, this is not really a scenic view. From the highway, you can see a beautiful overlook of the town of Frederick and the neighboring country, but from this overlook, you cannot really see much other than the high mountains in the distance. It is still pretty, but not a...
