It was a fascinating glimpse into the past. The modest one-room cabin, offers a unique perspective on the early life of this infamous outlaw. Stepping inside, but barely inside because plexiglass blocks you from going any further. The small size truly highlights the simple and hardworking lifestyle of the family. While the furnishings are basic, consisting of a single bed, table, and chairs, they effectively portray the pioneer life of the late 19th century. Beyond the cabin, the surrounding farmland, with its sweeping views, adds context to the challenges and opportunities the family faced. The property also includes a small barn, further illustrating the self-sufficient nature of their lives. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Butch Cassidy's childhood home for anyone interested in Wild West history or curious about the formative years of this legendary figure. It's a quick stop off the highway, but offers a unique historical experience and a reminder of simpler times. if you are in the area it is a must see location to pull off and check out.
Vault toilets are in the front area but are only available in the summer.
A trail information sign is also in the front area, showing a map of various ATV trails. There are a ton of trails in the area...
Read moreWas a fun and informative stop on Highway 89. There was a cabin and a very small out shed that may have been used for animals. We were able to stop into both buildings. In the cabin, there were a few items inside. When you stepped I side there was a small area just inside the door you could stand and look through plexiglass at the rest of the insides. Unfortunately other visitors over the years have scratched up the plexiglass which wasn't too bad to look through but made it terrible for taking pictures.
The interpretive signs were fun with a look at Butch's family in the 1880 US Census and a collage of newspaper articles about his life. There was a picnic area behind the cabins that would be nicely shaded in the summer afternoons. There are also restrooms and a trailhead at the parking lot. It was a fun stop that took about 10-15 minutes to take it all in. A great place to take a bathroom break and stretch your legs while seeing a...
