Visited Sandy Beach often years ago and again recently after all the FB advertising... and definitely looks worse than before, as far as the sand and shoreline. However, with the new parking lot, it's easier to drive in without owning an off road, high suspension vehicle. It's just sad to see the quarter mile of dirt parking lot is right on top of 90% of the beautiful sand that used to be there. Apparently it was okay to boss us around about not parking too close to the water and driving over the sand... but it was okay for you to bulldoze the entire ecosystem for a Walmart size parking lot.
The 4 cars in attendance really weren't asking for that much parking space. There was far more parking than exists beach front. A real life example of "Take down paradise to put up a parking lot." Which played in my head nonstop while I was there.
Also, the water has algae this week. And there was wood and sludge debris everywhere along with a couple bits of furniture garbage. The obvious weed control looks like a hazard for children and everybody. Literal spikes sticking up out of the water. I'm not impressed. Even if the water isn't swimmable, I used to take my kids to play in the sand. I can't safely do that now. There's barely 10 feet of sand between the water and piles of weeds and deadwood, in the best spots. I send you my best wishes on fixing that dumpster fire.
Also, who is gonna wanna use a picnic table gazebo in the location it is?! Literally in the far end of the parking lot, in a patch of weeds and no view.
At least it has an outhouse now. That's nice...
Read moreBonfires and driving on the beach are now banned as enforced by two cop cars that showed up. It's a nice location and the view is great! However, It smelled like rotting fish carcasses and there was a lot of trash and gnats around. Also the water is green, brown, and gross but tolerable and the bottom is really silty mud that you sink into which feels nasty tbh. Also no tables or bathrooms or shade. With that said it's the closest beach around so I mean it's better than...
Read moreThis place is really beautiful. The trash that people leave always disappoints me though, I wish people would be more responsible for our outdoors and considerate of others and upcoming generations.
Aside from all that... sand abounds. It is really fun to wade into the water, make sand castles, let the pets play, and all that.
There are rules here, no overnight camping and I think no fires. They said no motorized vehicles beyond a...
