This was a fun little hike, and the water felt really nice the day our group went. The little waterfall at the end of the trail was beautiful.

Just a caution...the trail was muddy when we went, so there were some areas that were more narrow and tricky/slippery and could have been unsafe. The path to the waterfall was only accessible via two sections with fallen trees/logs to walk across, one of which was pretty sketchy and the other was a little slippery bit the logs were wider and easier to walk across.

All in all, it was a fun trail, and the waterfall at the end of the path was fun to see/experience! Beautiful scenery.

Parking filled up quickly, but people were in and out fairly quickly. Be cautious, crossing the parking lot to the trail, as there is a consistent flow of traffic...

This hike was decent overall. I’m a very beginner hiker, and I was able to manage it. There are a few parts where you have to walk over water, rocks, and logs—including a log bridge which definitely made me a little anxious. The rest of the trail was manageable but has plenty of rocks and stumps, so watch your step.

The scenery was beautiful. Very bright green leaves and a shaded path the whole way made it much more enjoyable. My elderly, visually impaired dad did the hike too, and I was so proud of him!

The waterfall at the end is absolutely worth it. The trail is just under a mile. Parking was easy with a decently sized lot. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn’t crowded at all.

Wear good shoes, and be prepared to get at least ankle-deep in water in...

Overcrowded and unsafe.

It was packed with people and little kids. Someone above the grotto dislodged a boulder that came crashing down into the area below. It was a miracle no one was killed or seriously injured. It was a hot day so everyone was in the shade around the edges of the grotto. If a kid was in the sun or crossing from one side to the other they could have easily been crushed.

My sister in law's ankle was hit by rolling rocks. We did some quick first aid, packed up and left.

There are dozens of other great hikes in Payson Canyon. If you do go to the grotto, I would suggest avoiding crowded Saturdays during peak summer. In any case, keep your kids close and be hyper aware of who and...
