Awesome place for a day hiking and swimming adventure. You can get right up to the canyon and park alongside the road. Please be courteous of the local residents. From there you can make your way down to the canyon and start exploring. Once you make it to the Rubik’s Cube look around on the big rocks for the Taino petroglyphs. It’s a super cool place and can be challenging at times to negotiate. Wear good water/hiking shoes and be prepared to swim at certain points. I jumped off a few of the canyon cliffs into the water and was fine but later jumped off a waterfall into what appeared to be deep pool and there was a big rock about 6’ underwater. Luckily I hit the side of it with the soles of my feet and didn’t hurt myself but it could have been bad so I caution people not to jump off the waterfalls because you don’t know what’s down there. Overall it was great experience. Note: there are no facilities there so bring your food and water and carry your...
Read moreI'm so glad I found this place while researching what to see in Puerto Rico. I stumbled upon a You Tube video that gave me some details. I copied the coordinates from a blog and that's how we found the location. We went through some pretty windy roads to get here and I'm from West Virginia where it's nothing but windy roads. The area is absolutely gorgeous. We arrived before noon and parked at the first entrance and it was already running out of spaces to park. It was just a short path to the river. We never did find the sofa, but we definitely found areas to capture a shot. I would highly recommend taking a snack and water because we were pushing the lunch hour and getting pretty hungry. We tried to get a drone shot, but it's super windy through here and my drone was too light. After exploring we went into town and had the most delicious lunch ever. The town of Utuado is adorable and shouldn't be...
Read moreWe parked in a private driveway right across from a path down to the river. It was $10 for the car, but I'm glad we did--the guy was super nice, he had cameras, a private bathroom to change in/out, and free bug spray.
The canyon itself was underwhelming, it looks bigger in the photos. If you have toured other similar places, you will think it's very small. The climb down to "el sofa" is not marked and there are a number of very scary paths down that I could see people attempting and then getting stuck in the canyon. The path we took was to the left of the "el sofa" sign and it was a reasonable climb slanted downward right toward the sofa.
This canyon is not for those who are not in pretty good shape and sure of their footing. And obviously, don't go if there is rain upstream, it's a slot and rain rushing through...
