American Samoa is a tropical U.S. territory. Its halfway between Hawaii and New Zealand in the heart of Polynesia, American Samoa is off the beaten path. I don't know anyone that has visited so far. Ninety percent of the island has beautiful volcanic peaks, thick rainforests and pristine coral reefs remain a virgin landscape for the adventurous. American Samoa Ntl Park is the only park south of the equator. We had to cross the international date line to reach, ended up spending two days (47hrs) in April 4, 2024 . Ive actually crossed the dateline a few times along my travels.
Finally I got to visit American Samoa, Pago Pago which was so freaking amazing! Yes, its expensive and took forever to reach via boat but so worth the visit. Once you get off the boat walk approx. 20min walk to reach the visitor center. We walked and stopped at alot of stops along the way. Lots of parks, beaches, museums and shopping so the walk isn't bad at all. Its very hot and humid, I used a umbrella the whole time, the sun rays are no joke. More tips, take alot of water along your journey, and all medications that you need. I tried to get some cough drops and they where not available at any store. The visitor center is small but has every thing that you need. The staff was professional and helpful. They will help you decide what to do while you are visiting.
Make sure you rent a car, the local transportation is on island time. They do have buses that will pick you up at bus stops. The locals are very kind and seem to love tourists. Am Samoa is really not set up for a large amt of tourist, so keep that in mind. I actually like that they are not caught up with rest of the world. There happiness seems to be within. I really enjoyed my time, definitely a place I would highly recommend. #Bucketlist
Im sure Ive missed a few tips, will update as I...
Read moreNational Park of American Samoa is an extraordinary exotic tropical park with a lot of scenic attractions for hiking, exploring and relaxing. Samoan atmosphere was pleasant and laid-back. Hiking on trail was ruggedness, especially on the mountain, but on the beach was easygoing and relax. It is safe to travel there, but bring a lot of drinking water and a walking stick for your safety and health because the climate is tropical hot, and occasionally rainshowers - be careful on slippery rocks - a walking stick is your true lifesaver. It was fun and challenging for this mountainous trail. Samoan people gladly welcomed our visitors to explore their...
Read moreWell done visitors center with many informative displays, information, friendly staff and cultural presentations. Handicap access is in the back up a huge, steep hill that is more than 12 degrees, as my wheelchair was really struggling to get up it. There is handicapped parking up there for those in cars and the ramp into the building is easy. Is it worth going to? I think it was. Only drawback is I could not get my wheelchair into the bathroom stall. Just to narrow. The door for the bathroom to wash my hands was fine, but now I have to hurry back to the ship to find and...
