Opportunity stop. Neat little park. What is here?
Lot has space for maybe 20 cars but there are small pulloffs for cars on the road in. These are some distance and will require walking however. Bathrooms here at the lot with running water. These are new and well maintained. A nonshaded dog park is beside the lot. Has hose for water. Simple with no separation for small and large dogs. Park map at the lot with maps and even a QR code to scan for an interactive map.
The trails are numerous and range in difficulty although most are very easy to moderate with only one strenuous at .4 miles. So nothing here is mind-blowing difficult. The short nature trail takes you to a dock/viewing area of the lake. Scenic.
There is a non-paved greenway with side trails off of it. All trails have excellent signage detailing lengths, difficulty, and title. They are color coordinated. The interactive map is excellent with these and extremely accurate. All side trails are shaded with varying canopy. Expect webs at lower canopy sections.
A lot of construction going on as this is a newer park. Plans to extend the greenway to McGalliard Falls Park are detailed as well as plans for a kayak launch/fishing dock.
This park is booming with potential and when it is finished will be a destination stop for some. The interactive map is a fantastic addition and...
Read moreBest Park around in Valdese! GORGEOUS!! One can walk relatively flat until it gains elevation. Beautiful trails and picnic spots up and down. I was sooo pleased to find benches up and down the main trail, which makes for a beautiful place to view the Lake, rest the back, and enjoy a rest.
It has a gorgeous boat ramp that has handicap access via a ramp. The Lake is full of fish. It's beautiful!!
Wildlife is abundant. Great bird watching if you're into that. This is one of the best parts we've experienced, and we are from the PNW, which is the land of parks!!
Excellent for family and even boasts a small fenced-in dog park, and lovely outdoor stage, and a grassy area for...
Read moreI've been coming here for my walks and hikes. It is truly a gem for the community and one of a kind around here due to the fact that it's a walking park/ green way with a large amount of hiking and biking trails. It's as if you could merge Fonta Flora Trail from Lake James with Catawba Meadows Greenway, then you would have Valdese Lake Side park, which also connects to McGalliard Falls. There are also biking trails available as well along with a dock for fishing and kayak launches.
I always pick a different route for hikes, sometimes to challenge myself or just to stroll for a piece of mind.
Truly am thankful to Friends of Valdese and Valdese Recreational department...
