Being alive means being in nature. When we look at what humans were meant to do- we see a group of beings who are supposed to be a part of nature. Never were we to separate ourselves from the natural world that we live in- further, regardless of one's beliefs, humans are placed on Earth to protect the surrounding life. Yet, as technology advances, humans seem to forget this value. With the passing tides, humans become more destructive than protective. They wish to take rather than to give.
I know, all sounds harsh, but such is reality. Which is why we must not act like those who take pride in destroying land for the sake of their corporate cold company. Such is why we need to take the chance and bond with nature and show that we have not forgotten our fundamental purpose- to live with rather than above nature.
Today we had an enjoyable hike through the Appalachian Trail. Along one of the pathways is a Boardwalk Trail that winds you deeper into the woods. The trail is among our favorites.
Do you have a particular place to hike...
Read moreWent on December 30th, we were in the area, and it was a beautiful 65° day, right after a couple below freezing days. This was absolutely the perfect time to go. The swamp was frozen over with interesting patches of ice, best part of all there were no bugs! It's unfortunate that folks that bring pets need to continually be reminded to clean up after them, after all it's a raised boardwalk. The boardwalk was very well maintained with what appeared to be recently repaired sections. Unfortunately due to the weather the areas that didn't have boardwalk were a muddy mess which we didn't have shoes for. We did not continue to The Stairway to Heaven and instead decided to turn around at the end of the last boardwalk piece. Keeping in mind we went in the middle of the day, not on the weekend, even so parking was absolutely ridiculous, there are some spots for parking on the shoulder of the busy road that were almost all full. You would think that with all the effort that went into this lovely place someone would take into...
Read moreBring the dog, it's handicapped accessible (a lot of it), who knew marshland could be so breathtaking? For the more adventurous, there's a march walkover, and and a wobbly suspension bridge. If you're really into hiking (this would not be me) keep going up the Stairway to Heaven. Not a long hike, 3-4 hours out and back, parking is NOT easy on either end but if your patient and creative you can get a spot. Be sure to bring water, BUG SPRAY, maybe a walking stick? Yes comfortable sturdy shoes... There are options too... Hike all or part: Hike the just the boardwalk or just to the bridge or just to the hill or go all the to the foot of the Staircase where there is a hotdog stand. If you're a hiker or walker or outdoor person I'd say this is a Jersey Must Do. Some things that are not there. There are only porta pottys at the ends. Also there are no trash cans along the way. There really is no food or drink other than at the foot of the Stairway. So bring what you need and carry out what...
