Banks-Vernonia State Trail — Attraction in Vernonia

Rain or shine, this is wonderful place for biking, walking, mushroom hunting or just making a pit stop. There are paved trails on both side of the HWY 47 in great condition. Unfortunately, the picnic table that used to be at the parking lot is no longer there, but that might be temporary. The trail is very popular for bicyclists. So much so you have to be careful. Not all of them are experienced. The trail is like a one lane road and meant to be used in a single file in each direction. When passing other cyclests or hikers. Some of the folks we encountered didn't seem to know or didn't care. Nice paved trail. Beautiful countryside. Depends on what day you go and what time so you can anticipate heavy bike and foot traffic. If you enjoy about a 2 or 3 mile run/walk the path is mostly shaded and great for keeping cool. Bathroom and doggie poop bags provided at trail head.
