Nice little set of trails to escape from the vehicle traffic of suburbia. This area was once the site of the Overbrook Hospital Center Tuberculous buildings. There is a paved section that was once for vehicle traffic that comes of Fairview Avenue within the fairly new Cedar Grove Park. Follow that road to the hilltop and it then makes a loop. Within the loop is a nice meadow with a trail through it, that is where the majority of the buildings use to stand. There are also many trails which mountain bikers have blazed and continue to maintain. Good spot for runners, bikers, hikers etc. You can still find remnants of the old buildings and footings from the 2 old waters towers that were a land mark for many decades. Just a side-note: Part of the Sylvester Stallone movie "Copland" was filmed on the hilltop using the water towers in one of...
Read moreI love this place but I do have some recent problems. The trails are great for hiking and mountain biking. The people who maintain Hilltop have done and continue to do a great job. It's inconvenient especially when I have to get my 2 young kids to walk all the way from the parking lot to even start hiking. Also now they have posted numerous large "no biking" signs all over the park. It seems crazy to ban biking from a park that is largely maintained by...
Read moreBigger than you'd think. Lots of back trails. I would recommend downloading AllTrails for navigation. Trail markers aren't vibrant colors and they can be hard to notice. Some trails get close to peoples' backyards which can be a bit awkward. Not really any sights, but some interesting history as well as deer sightings. We parked at the Community Center across from Cedar Grove Park. You can access Hilltop Reservation by crossing the street and walking through...
