AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! AMAZING PEOPLE!! Going into this it was originally set up for my son who is a train finatic. My mom, sister, her two kids as well as my two all were unaware how much we would enjoy the train ride. The museum where you purchase tickets is really neat with many trinkets to buy and look at. On the other side of the building is literally a plethora of neat nostalgic items from olden day train rides and several opportunities to get hands-on with train items. I must admit none of us were expecting the rest to unfold the way it did. Kinda hard to believe it could get much better for my son(Kobe). We boarded the train, many people(volunteers) were dressed up to complete the civil war theme. As soon as we pulled away from the museum Kobe was being approached by dressed up volunteers. He found it to be so cool they noticed him and were talking to him. There's much to look at as the conductor tells about the scenary. At the end of the tracks there's an opportunity to even get off, look around and take pictures with the conductor. The way back the train was stopped again, guests given the chance to get off and watch a re enactment. It was quite an experience to see! After boarding and rolling again Kobe, my niece and daughter were asked if they'd like to come see where the conductor sets and even allowed to blow the whistle. From start to finish this will be a day my son remembers and talks about for years to come. Thank you ALL who came out that day, interacted with Kobe, gave opportunities he had only dreamed about and made his time here magical! The train ride was about two hours long. You totally get your money's worth with this. On a side note, service animals are welcome in the...
Read moreHaving accidentally deleted my original review this one won't accurately show the time frame that we were there which was early August of 2017. I only make note of it in case anything has changed to make the museum unworthy of a good review since our visit, though I can't think of what that might be. This was a great way to spend about an hour and a half. I must suggest however that if you are taking young children, wake them up earlier than usual for a Saturday or Sunday morning so that they can squeeze in a nap beforehand. My 3 year old grandson became very fussy & impatient before we made it back to the station. The seats, when originally built, were intended for two people. I think that people must be larger these days. If you are a large person, you may want to consider purchasing two for yourself. There is a unique feature of the seats in that they can be flipped so that you face the passengers in the seat that would normally be behind you. There are a couple of great photo ops. We were not in an air conditioned car, I understand that they do exist but, the cars were not air conditioned during the era when they were originally built. I prefer to experience the train as it would have been then. Free, cold, bottled water is available at the entrance/exit to each car which was very welcome and much appreciated. My only complaint is that if you get off of the train when it stops at the bridge, which is the halfway point, you are not guaranteed the seat you had when you started because the seating is...
Read moreWe are return customers, we've always had pleasant experiences with the ride and staff. However, we bought 1st class tickets to Santa train. We live 2 1/2 hrs out, we left is sufficient time. My husband is stage 4 cancer and our son is autistic, we have to make frequent breaks during the car trip. Running behind I called when we was 15 mins out and they told me they couldn't hold the train. Understanding completely, I chanced it and drove to our destination, but when we parked we watch the train pull out from the depot. I walked in the office, explained to the lady I had called earlier, she referred to me as the "no show" to a man behind me. I asked her my options, the man intervened and rudly suggested that I "should've left the house earlier." Again, I understand that I'm late, but I hoping for more of a reasonable response. The lady stated I can come next wk but will have to ride coach. Having doubt my husband could make another trip so far too soon, I asked if there would be a chance of a refund. Again, the ill-mannered man behind me sharply answered with a stern "no". I walked out. Life is hard. People are dealing with daily struggles, we plan these events to escape for a while. I know I was late, but being talked to like a child was uncalled for. Unfortunately, this will probably be...
