We went on a Sunday at noon. No wait but we noticed a small line formed after us. The Safari itself is not super large but you can go through as many times as you want. We only went through once. We bought six bowls of food in advanced and only used five. I recommend starting with 1 bowl per person. You can buy more there if needed. We also brought a container to pour animal feed into in the car so the full bowl wasn’t what we were holding while feeding them because some of them are rather strong and try to take/bite the whole bowl. It was a good idea. So you don’t risk dropping it and wasting your money. It helped us spread the food out so we had enough. We got great footage. They had a decent variety of animals. The animals are truly coexisting / roaming. They seem well maintained so none of us felt guilt or weirdness. Unfortunately, and I don’t think this is clear on the website, but you cannot feed the zebras and giraffes from your car. Luckily though, we happen to catch the giraffe feeding time. They do it every hour (so I think we caught the 1pm). It was $5 for a few leaves of lettuce or something like that. That’s what made the experience worth the drive from Chicago. In the end, it’s a unique thing to do. It’s safe. The animals are peaceful. The grounds are nicely kept. The staff was chatty, kind, and informative. They weren’t annoyed by any of our questions (and I’m sure they get asked the same things all day). There’s also an area to interact with the “baby” animals but most were timid due to children chasing them sadly. Overall, cool memory. And I recommend Mars Resort for lunch afterward. Only 20 mins away from the safari. Restaurant is on the water. They had live music. We all liked the food we got. I recommend the fried...
Read moreSaw Safari Lake Geneva on Facebook in February, of this year and thought it sounded like a unique experience. Our family went on May 22 between 1:30 and 2:30. We drove up to the check in and were cheerfully greeted. The process was explained, we picked up our animal feed, and we proceeded into the park. After check in, we visited the baby area, where we were able to see a variety of baby animals. From there, hopped back into the car, and drove through the park.
There are a variety of animals from long horned cattle, buffalo, camels, zebras, and several other kinds of animals. Most of them approached the vehicles while driving through and would eat from the feed buckets. The experience of feeding the buffalo was a pretty amazing experience. Some of the smaller animals could be fed by hand, with the purchased feed. But for the larger animals, it's best to let them eat out of the bucket.
Depending upon traffic in the Safari park, and how many times you stop to feed the animals, it takes probably about 30 min or so to drive through the park. Could be a little longer, could be a little less. Just depends on how many cars are in front of you. The speed limit in the park is 2 mph as well. You can drive through the park multiple times the day of your visit if you wish. We liked it so much, we drove through twice.
Overall, it was a very wonderful and unique experience, being able to get up close and personal with some pretty amazing animals. Just a heads up, the buffalo and the cows slobber a lot. So, if you don't like that, you may want to avoid feeding the cows and buffalo. I would highly recommend checking out Safari Lake Geneva! We had such a wonderful time and experience, that we will be going back again...
Read moreSecond time visiting. This time we did the drive thru with our car. I don’t even know if they do the wagon tours anymore? Maybe for big groups.
If you’re particular about your car this isn’t the way to go. Animals are extremely habituated to car=food & they all descend on you, some blocking you from moving thru while others rub or even lick the car. AND they will fight & scuffle for the food bumping into your vehicle. While our car was only made very dirty there’s definitely a high risk of damage if a horn or foot lands wrong during a scuffle, you sign a waiver releasing the Safari from liability so be warned. Animals are obviously well fed, probably too well fed, except for fighting for the food & mugging cars it doesn’t look like they exercise much, but we only saw a small snapshot of their day. Animals are well provided for (except for space) & a staff member on a UTV will try to move on the animals if they won’t let you thru or scuffle too much but they wait to do so as to not stir the animals up too much… it’s a fine balance.
Price for your drive thru & food was a bit much I felt. I probably won’t go back unless I drove I car I didn’t care about getting damaged or dirty because I think the preoccupation with worrying about our vehicle after the first scuffle really put a damper on the experience & made me question why I would spend $$ to be mugged by a bunch of animals. If I had a beater car I didn’t care about, it would’ve been a much more enjoyable experience. Or if we were on the wagon like the first time. But still part of me feels a bit sad that this is what the animals lives consist of, while well fed, provided for & none looked sad or depressed it’s not a very...
