This is one of those places that you want to give a higher rating because of the great scenery and cleanliness, and yet it falls short given the circumstances. Almost every time we've gone, there's been an event, and the event guests will not want to share the playground or other areas even though the Pavillion and gazebos are the only places actually for rent. Even natives of VB will be scowled at if you try to enjoy the scenery while someone feels entitled to everything just because they rented a picnic shelter. Not sure why this is the case here, but literally happens without fail. You'd be hard pressed to find a time when there isn't an event. Perhaps they need to increase the rental fees? Playground is fantastic, soft and safe. Unfortunately the kids will participate in exclusionist behaviors if they are part of a rental party, so it must be a thing. Parking is a bit interesting. I can't say I ever felt like the vehicle was safe, often drawing a lot of looks as if I was being evaluated for potential. I don't drive anything special, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Basically I feel like the atmosphere is all Norfolk here. We've decided there are better places to go, unfortunately. The scenery is beautiful, but not...

Great Neck Park. Despite it being quite underwhelming, it is one of the most peaceful, and secluded parks in town. At the very end of Shorehaven Dr., this park is overlooked by many as Great Neck Rec Center, Cox High School, and a variety of sports fields all precede it. It seems quite small until you realize there are some unique trails that provide access to an overlook of the Lynnhaven Bay. There are the standard playground and basketball courts, as well as overhead shelters. The abundance of natural vegetation and trees lead me to rank this as one of the best parks in the city if you are looking for a place to take a serene walk in the morning, or to get away from city life. The hidden trail to the water, and the awesome gazebo, are two great characteristics that make this...

We were there for a wedding this Saturday, November 9th. The wedding was in the gazebo. Nice place but......our car and another car was vandalized within an hour and a half’s time. While we were at the gazebo, vandals shattered our rear passenger side window on our suv and another suv parked in the same lot. They stole purses and/or wallets that were in the back on the floor. Beware of this kind of activity that some say is no surprise since they’ve cut staffing...

This is a great family park. They have several covered picnic areas, a playground, sand volleyball, basketball, and cornhole (bring your own bags). The walking trails in the woods are nice but not very long. You can extend your walk by going to the field behind the baseball fields. There are nice views of the water, plenty of picnic tables, and several trash and recycle bins. The area is well maintained and clean.

New picnic shelters are really nice, well-built and attractive. Plenty of room for large groups at Shelter #2, which had about 12, 6-8 person picnic tables beneath it. Currently, there are only portable toilets due to delays from this spring's tornado re-prioritizing the construction crews.
