We came to visit during Labor Day weekend. Pets really enjoyed it! We came after 6pm - that’s when you can bring your animals to this beach. We brought our two cats and our Russian tortoise.

Parking was a bit of a mystery. We didn’t see any signs, so we just parked where other people parked - on the right side of the one street over from the Atlantic Avenue.

There weren’t that many beach goers present and that was so nice! The beach was quiet and filled mostly with families with children and older couples with pets. Surfers had a couple of great waves and some were surfing past 6pm. We didn’t see any lifeguards, so you got to see watch your little ones when you go there.

Overall definitely a contender for a...

Arrived at beach, very open area. Short walk down lovely pathway by very nice houses. Water was colder than normal. Waves were exquisite. The Atlantic Ghost Crab was also featured at this beach, zipping along shore. I do however have an issue with this beach. My friend and I of course wanted to really feel the effect of the wave, in higher water. We did so. We then begin to feel something biting us. We look down at our bodies and there seems to be what appears as sea live, a jelly fish larva. I’m not sure if it’s just the season but just my experience. Overall a...

Someone below said Virginia Beach beaches are not dog friendly. That is incorrect.

During the summer (Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day weekend), dogs cannot be on the beach between 10 am - 6 pm. They are also limited to 42nd street or higher or in the Sandbridge area before 10 am and after 6 pm. Dogs are allowed on the boardwalk in the summer from 6 am - 7 pm.

Any other time of the year, dogs are allowed on the beaches and...

Parked on a side street and walked onto the beach. Easy access without the crowds downtown. It’s amazing to watch fighter jets in maneuvers off Langley AFB. Be forewarned, the sand is hot, so wear sandals or shoes that can get sandy. My bare midwestern feet were burned walking across the sand from the boardwalk, developing blisters before reaching the water. Sandals would have alleviated my ignorance.

I’ve been to 74th St. twice in the last week or so and it is epic every single time one end of 74th St. you have a beautiful oceanfront on the other hand on the land side you have that the houses are backed up to the edge of seashore State Park which is now called first Landing but I always still call it by the old name you cannot go wrong checking out the north end beaches there anytime of year
