When I attended Regent University, I was trying to figure out where I should go on Sundays. I did go to one church before I went to Wave with a friend. It was good, but the people seemed a bit distant. One Sunday, I got up late so I couldn't go to church that morning. I decided to look at Wave Church's website, and lo and behold, they provided transportation to pick up at Regent. Since I couldn't go that morning, I decided to go that evening. At first, I was a bit skeptical with the worship part, because I was used to the black style of worship, but I listened to the sermon, and they were awesome, and Bible-based. As I kept going, I started to enjoy the worship services, and I went in both the 11AM & 6PM services. I do recognize that they talk about money, but for a good reason. It's not about the pastor or the congregants, but it's about God and helping others toward Christ. They show where the tithes, offerings, and donations are going towards. The money is not just going towards expanding Wave Church, but to help and spread the Gospel to local communities, this nation, and people around the world. Give what God has placed in your heart, and leave the rest up to Him. Yes, Wave Church has its flaws like all churches have, but they have a vision and they are doing the best they can to make sure that God gets the fame and that He is being preached throughout the world. The church should be a reflection of Christ, and not a place where we sit and complain about what's happening in the world. Instead, the church should be about giving Christ-centered solutions. Wave Church may be a big church, but big doesn't always mean bad. Wave Church may be culturally relevant, but they don't compromise the Word of God. Wave Church's style of worship may be out of many of our leagues, but it's all about worshiping God and not ourselves. Unfortunately, I graduated from Regent, and I had no choice but to move back to Suffolk, so I'm currently not attending Wave. I miss Wave and I hope to go back...
Read moreThis is more of a FAIR then GOOD review for Wave Church. As you walk into the church you are basically greeted by people promoting outreach projects and vendors selling coffee. Prior to the service, I walked into the sanctuary and found my seat and observed flashing advertisements for car dealers, lawyer firms, and other businesses on two huge electronic screens.
Observing all of this quickly reminded me of the bible verse, (Matthew 21:12) - "And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons."
Aside from the business dealings outside, the companies were indirectly exchanging money through the use of advertisements on the inside. Can you really find peace and serenity in a place like this?
Also, I am not one to judge but the youngster who hosted before bringing out the senior pastor to speak wore a low buttoned shirt and mohawked hair who's appearance spoke more of superficiality instead of conveying an image of humility. (1 Peter 5:5-6 is just one of many verses on how God wants us to live with humble hearts)
I rate the pastor as GOOD because he is articulate and speaks from a heart of humility. Steve Kelly spoke passionately about the word of God and you can see that he truly believes in what he is doing. He even stated that Wave Church is not for everyone.
So if you are thinking about attending this church, go for it! But just be cautious but open minded and know what you are getting yourself into. There are a lot of beautiful and friendly people at this church. And God has the ability to use anyone and everyone to fulfill His will no matter who they are or what church they...
Read moreMy friend invited me and I did feel like I should go with her since she did something that was important to me, even exchange. I am not a believer but when I was growing up I attended a very small Methodist church with Rev. John Hagens (RIP Rev. Hagens) I have the utmost respect for him. So I can say that the day I attended Wave it was mostly all about the money. They passed the plate twice not once and also had many things that they were asking donations for. I hate that. I just wonder how much Steve Kelley, his wife and other higher ups in the church are taking in. (We will never know for sure) I knew I would be turned off completely by the mega church atmosphere so there’s that. The music was very loud and of course they have the huge screens like you are at a concert, too much for me. I’m not into holding up my arms and praising Jesus or dancing in the aisles so I felt very awkward indeed. One person said hi before the service but honestly I was dodging any contact because I did not want to be approached to possibly give my name and information so they could “reach out to me” which did happen and I politely declined and explained that I was happy being a guest right now. The service included a speaker who talked about child sex trafficking which AGAIN included the request for donations to “help these children” I almost really liked the speaker and all of that until yet again it came down to money. The coffee was very good....
