Above and beyond what you may expect from a historic home. You won't find a friendlier staff of docents at any other similar property. Take the guided tour; it is worth it. You will find writing on the wall from a child in the 1800s. Some of the original glass window panes have etchings on them. You can actually touch some of the original framing from the 1600s. And, if you are brave, go sit in the garret for a bit and listen for the voices from long ago. And, I haven't even mentioned the large manicured grounds that you can roam. If you are visiting in the Williamsburg area, you can take the free ferry ride across the James River to Surry. This will make for a pleasant, inexpensive, afternoon of site seeing. While there, you can also visit the old historic home located nearby in the Chippokes...

The house became known as "Bacon's Castle" because it was occupied as a fort or "castle" by the followers of Nathaniel Bacon during Bacon's Rebellion in 1676. However, contrary to popular folklore, Bacon never lived at Bacon's Castle, nor is he even known to...

I came here for the Village Faire as a vendor. The staff were extremely helpful, informative, and overall just very nice. The landscape was beautiful and perfect for a little photo op with my daughter. We even met Ms. Carol who set it all up and she just had an overwhelming love for the castle and you could tell she was passionate about her job. Will definitely try and come for the spooky tour. I hope they do more events, or even a spooky themed one in October! Worth the drive we had to do and definitely would recommend to...

We got to tour the castle here yesterday and it was so beautiful. We arrived for homeschool day and the children got to learn about natural dyes and peanuts grown on the farms around Bacons Castle! They got to plant a peanut in a cup to take home and dye their own cloths with natural dyes like they did 100s of years ago. They also were doing a garden tour and house tour! All of the guides were very knowledgeable and bright! Very educational and fun! Truly a unique and fun experience, I highly recommend this place!

The Haunted Tour at Bacon’s Castle is fantastic. The tour guides (Sarah and Lisa) did a phenomenal job giving a tour of the historic property while providing insight on past and recent instances of paranormal activity (many of which involved then). Highly recommended. My gf experienced roughly 15 minutes of lost time which was trippy and I had high levels of EMF readings. In addition, I snapped a picture of a potential orb in the slave quarters. Definitely check out Bacon’s Castle!
